Hello year 5,
I hope you have had a restful Easter break and are healthy and happy.
As you know, the teachers at St Vincent’s have been working very hard to keep in touch with their classes through the blogs. Online learning is new for us all and we are continually looking for ways to improve it. I have really enjoyed reading your comments on the blogs.
I would like to know how you have been finding the Year 5 blogs so far.
Which activities have you enjoyed and which would you like more of? Any positive feedback will be much appreciated. I would also like to know if you found anything too difficult? Were there any activities you found challenging to complete with a parent’s help? I know it can be quite tricky to learn from home but this is your chance to share how you have personally been finding it. Is the amount of work set just right? Too much? Not enough? Are there particular blogs you wish to have more of?
Please remember we have also shared many learning websites on the Home Learning section as well as the daily whole school blogs during the Easter holidays. There are BBC Bitesize activities and Talk for Writing shared by us on the website too. Hopefully this is plenty to keep you busy and you’re not too bored at home. I would love some feedback on the Year 5 blogs in particular, please.
We value your feedback and would like to know how you feel about the blogs. It would be really helpful to me so I can make them better for you!
Please kindly let me know in the comment section below.
Thank you!
Mrs Avdiu
1) I think that mostly the maths blogs needed a bit more explaining or hints for how to work out the problems (maybe type something in the blog to help us whilst we are trying to work it out).?
2) It would be better not to reveal our answers on the SPAG blog like on the maths blog so people don’t copy us.?
3) I like that you don’t show the answers on the maths blog so others can’t copy you.?
Thank you for this very useful feedback, Marco!
You will be pleased to know that from tomorrow I will explain which worksheets you’ll need to complete and we will be using the Maths blog to help while you try to work it out or if you have any questions. I will also add more clarification about how to work out the MNP worksheets with photo examples to help you all. Answers for Maths will no longer need to be shared in the blog so this should stop the ‘copying’ you mentioned!
I will share the feedback about SPAG answers but I think the new way we will be doing the SPAG will allow children to write different answers (eg: different pronouns if the answer needs a pronoun) so hopefully this should not allow for copying. Also, I think it’s helpful to share answers sometimes because it can help other children to see an example from their classmates 🙂
Thanks again for your useful feedback!
Hello everyone! I hope that your day has been great so far.
I am going to give some feedback about the blogs – mostly the maths.
1. As Marco had said, it is really useful how you don’t show the answer to the maths blog so that we can work the question out by
ourselves and not by copying out what the person before us wrote.
2. When you post the answer for the maths question – it doesn’t say how you got to the answer, so we can not check and compare our work to yours. It would be useful to have an explanation on how to actually get that answer, so anyone who got it wrong could see how and where they missed something and got the answer incorrect.
Thank you!
Have a lovely day everyone!!
Thank you, Nika! It is quite tricky with problem solving open-ended questions where there are multiple ways to achieve the answer so I had hoped that the other children explaining how they worked it out would have helped? Don’t worry though, as our new Maths No Problem blogs which will begin from tomorrow will be much easier as your parents will have access to the Maths No Problem 🙂 You can find out more here: https://www.stvincentsprimary.org.uk/news/accessing-maths-no-problem/
Hello Mrs Avdiu I agree with Marco for the math blog I think it does need some more explaining so it can be clearer to work out?. Although I like the rest of the blogs and how they work?. I also think that for the maths blog you should reveal the answers a little bit later because I usually do my blogs in the afternoon but the answers are already on so I can’t do it? but I like how you can’t copy other people’s answers?.
Thanks Claudia! I’ve always shared the answers the following morning so the comments may have been approved by accident! Don’t worry, this shouldn’t be a problem with the new way we will be doing things as you will have access to the answers at home for when you are ready to mark your answers 🙂
There will also be more explanations for the maths worksheets set. Thanks so much for your feedback – I am glad you are liking the blogs!
Dear Mrs Avdiu,
Hope every one is fine!
I do like the daily blogs because it provides me with a feeling of school.
I would like to have a typed lesson before the maths problem as you do for the SPAG blog. It will help me to review a subject.
thank you!
Thanks for your lovely feedback!
I will definitely be providing more ‘lesson like’ instructions for maths 🙂 It was quite tricky to do for the problem solving without solving it with you along the way!
Hello Everyone !!!
I think that on the math blog you should not show the other peoples response to the question.
I hope you all have a good day.
Thanks for your feedback Elena. Is there anything you liked about any of the blogs?
As I said to Claudia earlier, I’ve always published/approved the answers the following morning so the comments may have been approved by accident! Don’t worry, this shouldn’t be a problem with the new way we will be doing things as you will have access to the answers at home for when you are ready to mark your answers ?
Hi Mrs Avdiu. I think the maths blog needs a bit more hints and a bit more explaining in how to answering the problem solving questions.
The other blogs are good.
Thank you for the feedback Olivia. I am glad you are enjoying the other blogs and I appreciate the problem-solving was really tricky!
Don’t worry – there will be more explanations for the Maths No Problem worksheets set daily from tomorrow. Thanks so much for your feedback – I am glad you are liking the blogs!
Hi
Please can you let us know what we need to do on Maths No Problem online? I have created the account but when I go on the site, there are two textbooks and two workbooks but it’s not clear which sections we should be working on.
Thanks
Theo and Ceri
Hello Theo! The Maths blogs do not start until tomorrow. We wanted to give everyone a chance to have a go at learning how to log in first. Well done for creating the account. Look out for tomorrow’s blog at 9.30 where I will explain which two worksheets you’ll need to complete and mark. Also it’s really useful to read comments on here because your question was answered in the reply to Marco earlier – this can save you some time! Could you please let me know how you’ve been finding the blogs I have been setting for you? 🙂
I have been finding the blogs very useful and logged onto the Shakespeare website today. I did the comprehension, watched Part 1 of the video and did the quiz. Thanks, Theo
Well done, Theo! Would you recommend it to others? It was useful looking at The Tempest this year too when studying playscripts 🙂
Dear Class 5,
Thank for sharing your feedback. Hopefully using Maths No Problem tomorrow will work better for you all.
I’m impressed some of you have started working on the Shakespeare project- this is a great resource.
Take care, Miss Coleman
