New Daily Challenge

Apostrophes for missing letters

Apostrophes are used to show where letters are missing from a word.

I am – I’m               had not – hadn’t              you are – you’re

Sometimes the shortened word doesn’t quite match the words it’s made from:                    will not – won’t

Task

In each sentence, find the two words that can use an apostrophe. Write out the each sentence using an apostrophe in the correct place:

  1. We will have to try again tomorrow.
  2. Mrs Smith does not wear any socks.
  3. She is always reading a book.
  4. They have been on holiday again.

Can you write your own sentences using these words with apostrophes:

I’m         hadn’t          you’re          won’t          doesn’t        she’s

Post your answers on the blog, remember to check over your punctuation and spelling before posting.

Answers will be put up in tomorrow’s daily challenge.
