You worked so hard yesterday to get all that writing done. I hope you remembered to edit your work after you had written your story. Editing and proof reading is just as important as the actual writing! We all make mistakes and we can always make our work better. You can try to edit by yourself or with a member of your family. Do you remember how we do it at school? You need to sit together so you can both see the writing, you can hold the editing pen and read out your work. Your partner will then check it makes sense, check spelling and give ideas to make it better. You can then choose which changes you want to make. Check back on yesterday’s blog to see some questions that you might want to think about while you are editing.
Once you have edited your writing, and you are happy that it is your best work, then it is time to publish it! Either, type it up in the blog, or, write it out in your neatest handwriting (no mistakes!), take a photo of it and send it in to me. I’ll then put it up here for others to see.
Make sure you read other people’s work too, it helps us all to get better to borrow ideas for each other! I can’t wait to read all your finished stories!
Michael Rosen is a wonderful author and has written many stories and poems. He is also a brilliant story teller and enjoys telling his stories with actions and funny facial expressions. Watch this video to see his ending of the story. I hope you enjoy it!
Dear Miss Carruthers,
I am eating banana bread like the massive bear in my story. I will try to write it for you neatly and send it.
I really liked hearing the real story from Michael Rosen.
Brilliant! Did you make your banana bread? I really like hearing Michael Rosen read stories too, he is very good at it!
Mmm Jack. Yum yum and yum again!
Fantastic writing Jack! I am so impressed that you managed to do all that writing – it must have been the delicious banana bread giving you extra energy for all your writing! Really well done ⭐️
Masha screamed and struggled all the way to the bear’s home. When they arrived, Masha scrubbed the floor. She washed his trousers and ironed them. She had no choice.
“Why don’t you just buy a washing machine and a tumble-dryer like most people? Wait, I mean bears,” she said.
But the bear took no notice. He was hungry, and ordered her to cook his dinner. It was three fish followed by a pot of honey. He said he wanted the same for every meal.
The only credit she got from all of that was a cold and six burns.
“Why don’t I get any food? I’m starving!” Masha said.
“If you want a meal, then cook a meal! What’dja think I look like, ya servant?!” barked the bear.
She didn’t want to be treated like that in a thousand years! She DEFINITELY had to get her own back.
This was Masha’s plan to get her own back on the bear. She divided it into steps:
1. She will sneak to her grandmother’s house in the night and take a pot of mustard and pots and pots of jam.
2. While she’s at her granny’s house, she will make a model of herself out of straw and cotton just like on Bonfire Night and she’ll put it in her bed at home. Her granny is nearly blind so she won’t notice a thing.
3. When she cooks the bear’s supper the next evening, she will put half the pot of mustard into the bear’s honey (there was only half of the pot left so half means the whole thing).
4. While the bear is eating his food, Masha will go up to the bear’s bedroom and she will put all the jam into the bear’s bed.
5. At night*, she will steal £10 from the bear’s beary (like piggy) bank and go to the shops to buy lots of cheap jam and a pot of mustard and put the mustard and jam in the fridge at her granny’s home.
6. On the way back from the shops, Masha will bring her walkie talkies from home and finish the route.
7. She will put a walkie talkie under the sofa and hide outside the house going “whoooo hooooo hoo whoooo hooooo!” into the other walkie talkie like a ghost.
8. She will disable the heating while the bear’s having a bath.
9. The bear will think the house is haunted and run away.
10. Masha will run the opposite direction towards her granny’s house.
THE END!
*everything will take place at night.
Wow Rex! What an intricate plan for Masha to not only escape, but also to get her own back on the bear! The poor bear will be terrified! Well done for coming up with an imaginative plan.
The ?bear took Masha to his bear house?.Masha was scrubbing ?the floor, making the bear’s dinner and washing his trouser ?. Masha’s Grandma ??and Masha’s friends were very worried ?because they thought? that Masha had been eaten! Masha was trying to escape! Masha was very angry?she did not like the bear!
I can imagine that Masha didn’t like the bear after her kidnapped her! I wonder how she managed to escape.
We reached his cave which was terrible and only kept warm because of the fire. It was so slimy and green she slipped a ton of times.
She’d just finished her chores and the only thing Masha needed to be done was making dinner. Tonight’s dinner was deer cake. I gave him an extra ingredient “Sleepy Head Gas”. Today I came, tonight I leave.
I’m glad Masha could find some Sleepy Head Gas! She should be able to escape, no problem! Well done!
One day the bear wanted Masha. The bear had an idea. He was going to disguise himself to look like a granny. Then he went to get Masha. When he got Masha he ran of to his house.
Masha was not pleased to be with the bear again. Masha did not want to be with the bear because his house smelt disgusting and she had chores to do. The chores were clean the house, do the dishes and water the plants.
One month later, Masha had a clever idea. It was to ask the bear if he could take some sweet cupcakes to Granny. Then Masha would sneek behind the trees and follow the fuzzy furry bear to her Granny’s house. She was happy because she was going to see her nice granny again.
When she was at her house she played hide and seek with her friends and she never went to hide back in the woods.
Well done Madeleine, excellent writing! Poor Masha having to be in the bear’s smelly house for a whole month!
Sad Masha?had no choice but to?cook, wash? trousers, and scrub the floor? . She never got a break from the grizzly ? bear. Every night? she thought about her wonderful Grandma???. She felt ? angry about the grizzly bear ?because he had taken her to do every thing for him. She tried to go out of the window (there is no emoji for window) but she couldn’t go out the window because it was locked ?. At bedtime ? she tried to get out of the wooden door ?and she did yay!!! It was pitch black ⬛️ and raining ? every were. Then Marsha heard the bear? roaring his voice out . She hid quickly behind the big oak tree ?as he came out the house. Luckily he couldn’t see her as it was so dark and he went back inside.
A little creature ?heard her sobbing ? and came to comfort her. She was shocked when he started to talk to her, it was magical ✨.
The little creature called to his friends and siblings to help. Their tails lit up? and they guided her out of the woods? all the way home. Her Grandma was fast asleep ? and when she woke up she was so happy to see Marsha. Then Marsha never went in the woods again .?
Brilliant writing Sophia! I love how many adjectives you used to describe the characters. ‘Sad Masha’ perfectly tells your reader how she is feeling while she is trapped in the bear’s house. A very imaginative ending too with the magical creatures helping to get her home. Well done!
Once there was a girl called Masha who lived in the woods with her Grandma. She asked her Grandma if she could play outside with her friends, they were going to play hide-and-seek. Masha was going to hide first. Her friends took 10 minute to find her but they never came. So then Masha came out of her hiding spot, she thought about going back home. When she was walking, she knew she was lost but then…
…there was a massive, enormous bear. He grinned at Masha and said, “You’re coming home with me!” Then Masha said, “No, I am not coming with you!” The bear got mad because Masha would not go with him. Then he picked Masha up and wrapped his giant arms around her as tight as he could. Then he carried Masha to his house. He had some chores for her to do. One, was to cook dinner. Second, was to clean his dusty old ripped trousers. Third, was to scrub the floors shinny clean. Masha thought that her Grandma would be worried so she asked, can I go home. The bear said, “No, you are never going home again.” Cleverly, Masha had an idea and it was to give the terrible bear a toy cleaner that was a robot and a toy chef. Then Masha told the mean bear what she was thinking. After the bear said yes. He agreed to let her go home but you need to get my robots today or tomorrow.
THE END!
Well done Layla! I love how many adjectives you have used to describe the characters and what they are doing.
The bear kept carrying Masha and then he reached his house and made her cook his dinner right away. She really wanted to go home so she had an idea. Masha knew that her friends and Granny were waiting for her to come home but she would have to finish making the bear’s dinner first.
When the bear got distracted by watching television after dinner, Masha slowly tiptoed to the door so she wouldn’t make any noise. She quietly opened the door and ran home as fast as she could before the bear could catch her. The bear finished watching television and saw that Masha was not there! He was very angry!
Masha’s friends and Granny were so happy and surprised when she came home. Granny made cake and Masha decided to never go into the woods again.
Brilliant Rebecca! You really thought hard about your sentences and used lots of adjectives and conjunctions to make it interesting for the reader. Well done!
The bear took Masha into the deep, dark part of the forest where he lived. They walked for five miles before they got to the bear’s house. Masha felt scared and worried but hopeful that someone would save her. The bear lived in a very small cave.
When Masha got to the bear’s cave, the bear felt strong and powerful and could do anything he wanted. He yelled “you are in my house and you will do all the housework”.
“Yes” said Masha angrily. She wished the bear hadn’t found her. The bear said “you will cook, clean and sleep on the floor when finished”. The bear gave her a blanket and a pillow.
The bear had dinner and fell asleep.
While the bear was sleeping, Masha thought of a great escape plan. Back at Grandma’s house, she sat on her rocking chair waiting and wondering where Masha was. It was very late at night and Masha hadn’t come home.
Grandma called Masha’s friends and put a search party together. They went into the forest with a big lamp and shouted “Masha, where are you?” but they didn’t find Masha.
Back at the cave, Masha had an escape plan. She put the pillows on the floor and covered it with a blanket While the bear was sleeping, she crept out of the cave and was careful not to make any noise.
Masha opened the door but she didn’t know the bear had set a trap. He put a kettle on top of the door and when Masha opened the door, the kettle fell down and made a loud noise!
The bear woke up but Masha didn’t wait. She ran and ran through the forest until she saw a river and found her way home.
When she got back home, her Grandma was relieved to see her. Grandma said “where were you? I was so worried”. Masha told her Grandma what had happened. Grandma gave Masha a hug and a hot drink and cakes. Masha was glad to be back home and was very careful when she went out to play again. THE END
What an excellent story Catherine! I love the twist in the story where the bear had set a trap with the kettle – I was so worried that Masha would get caught again. Well done!
After two and a half hours, they finally reached the bear’s house. The bear locked Masha up in the attic, and she felt very worried.
In the basement, there were tubes going through the walls connecting to a potion factory. The bear pushed a button and potion went through the tubes and into his bottles. He made lots of potions, even a potion of invisibility.
The bear let out Masha so she could cook his dinner. Masha guessed the bear’s favourite food and made him a cake. The bear was so focused on the cake that Masha sneaked down to the basement looking for a way to escape.
Masha didn’t know why all the tubes and bottles were there. She saw potions for water-breathing, fire-resistance and invisibility. She grabbed a bottle of each and drank the invisibility potion. Invisible Masha held her breath and quietly sneaked upstairs and out of the house. The bear was very puzzled when he saw that she was gone!
She made it to a river and drank the water-breathing potion. Masha went underwater and rode on a fish so she could go faster. She left the river when it was closest to Granny’s house. Her invisibility ran out and she finally reached home. Her friends were happy and Granny made her a cake. THE END
Amazing story John! Thank goodness Masha picked up those potion bottles so that she could turn invisible. I’m glad she stayed quiet though while she was sneaking out, or else the bear might have heard her! Well done!
Dear Miss Carruthers,
we really like watching the video with the ending of the story. Very funny story.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Well done both of you for such excellent stories. Did you read them to each other after?
Dear Miss C and Miss Carruthers,
I tried hard with my writing and yes I made the banana bread with mummy yesterday.
From Jack
Ooh Jack I want some of that banana bread. That’s if there’s any left! I can see how hard you worked on your writing Jack.
The big, furry and mean bear? with terrible claws and knobby knees had dark brown eyes and his teeth ? were sharp and yellow. Masha was terrified and felt helpless. They arrived to a round, colossal, red wooden house ? deep in the woods. “I am not going to do anything for you” shouted Masha indignantly. “ I want to go home.””Oh no you will not” he growled. “ You are staying here.” The angry bear flung her down on the floor. “You have to cook me dinner, wash my pants and scrub the floor” boomed the bear. Masha looked around at the dirty walls then she looked at the pots and pans. They were all covered with dried food. Masha was shocked because she had never seen such a filthy house in her life. Masha started to cry and sob and soon there was a stream of tears. The bear was annoyed and shouted: “ Go home! I can’t bear this noise.” Masha ran home happily. From that day on Masha always listened to granny.
Brilliant writing Marie! I love your choice of vocabulary to make it so exciting to read!
Dear miss Carruthers,
I have finished my English blog homework and I have uploaded it to you.
Thank you.
Thank you for uploading it. You wrote a great story Sophie, well done! Well done for using lots of adjectives to make it interesting for the reader.
The massive bear grabbed Masha and slung her into his arms. The bear brought Masha to his home and told her what to do. The bear said cook my dinner. Wash my trousers. Clean the floor. Masha’s friends could not find Masha and told her grandma. They worried a lot. Meanwhile back at the bear’s house Masha made a colossal pot of soup and THE BEAR ATE IT ALL!! Masha had put a special magical potion in the soup, so the bear would fall asleep. The bear fell asleep and the clock stroke midnight. All doors and windows were locked in the house, but there was one escape….the chimney! Masha climbed up the dark, scary chimney and ran as fast as her little legs could carry her. Once she was safe back home Masha has learnt to always listen to her grandma. Her grandma was so happy to see Masha. And from then on Masha always only went to play where her grandma could see her.
Brilliant writing Bo! I love all your descriptions!
As Masha arrived at the bear’s house, he started to look sad. “What’s wrong?”, asked Masha. “I am actually quite friendly”, said the tall bear, “but I need your help to clean my dirty house, because my mother is coming to visit me tomorrow”. Masha looked around curiously: There were dirty dishes in the sink, toothpaste all over the bathroom floor, clothes hanging out of the wardrobes and books lying around on the sofa in the living room. How can a bear make this mess? “Let’s get to work!”, said Masha. “Ok”, answered the bear relieved. They cleaned for two hours. When they were finished, both stepped back to admire their work. “Can I go home now?, asked Masha. “One more thing”, said the bear, “can you teach me please how to make a cake? Masha agreed to help and they baked a delicious 5 layer-cake. “Thank you” said the the bear and hugged her. The bear brought Masha home and they became good friends. From now on the bear could play hide and seek with Masha and they lived happily ever after. The end.
Oh Sophia, you managed to make me feel so sorry for the bear! He just needed some help! What a wonderful story, well done!
The bear took Masha home into his dark, creepy cave. When they got to the bear’s cave the bear asked Masha to wash his trousers, scrub the floor and cook his dinner. Masha said ,”no I want to go back home” but the bear didn’t let her and carried her to the cooking room. The bear said “if you don’t do what I say you won’t get any food, any bed and will have to sleep on the floor outside my cave.” So Masha did what the bear said and had to cook her own dinner, breakfast and lunch. At night she thought of a plan to escape from the bear. So the following day Masha said ,“I have to go get some food for dinner” so the bear let her. Soon Masha noticed that the bear was following and quickly went the other way the bear saw that she was going a strange way and asked her why it was taking a long time. She said “because there was no animals there”. After a while Masha said you go right and I will go left so the bear went right and Masha went left. Masha had tricked the bear. The bear had caught a few animals and was on his way home meanwhile Masha was on the way home to once she got home she put up a notice that said “KEEP OUT BEARS!!”. From that day on no one went into the woods. THE END
What a clever trick! Well done girls on a great ending to your story.
The big brown bear took Masha to the cave . Masha worked all day, washing up dishes and washing the bears trousers. Masha felt very sad and tired.
The bear heard a noise and went outside into the woods and found a sound box. Suddenly granny jumped up and smacked the bear with her rolling pin. The bear said ‘aaawwww’. Granny said ‘take me to Masha’. The bear was very frightened of Granny so he took granny to his cave.
Masha was so relieved and happy to see granny. She ran and hugged her. Granny quietly told Masha that she was actually a secret Ninja.
The bear started to cry and said that he was sorry, he only wanted some company. Granny took the bear and Masha to her house. After dinner, granny gave the bear a teddy bear and he named it Big Brown.
Two days later Masha, granny and the bear went on a holiday to Japan. They met some other bears there and the bear recognised a voice. It was his mum and dad. The bear felt happy. He told his mum and dad that Masha was his best friend. The End.
Well done Joshua – what a happy ending! Granny was definitely a bit of a superhero and was very kind in forgiving and then helping bear to find his real family.
He took Masha to his home in Bear village. No humans lived there, only bears. They stared at Masha because they had n-n-n-never-ever seen a human. Masha laughed because even the bear soldiers had never seen a human!
The bear took her shopping and bought her a mansion next to his. It turned out he was a nice bear.
He said “if you be my servant you need a decent house.”
“Thank you!” she said.
Back home her friends and her grandma were looking for her. The friends had called out twenty times.
“Come out, we can’t find you.” But she never came.
Her grandma said they should look deep in the woods this time. Grandma had put a tracking device on Masha earlier in the day (just in case) and she connected it with her phone and said “Now we will see where Masha is”. She saw Masha in the middle of Bear village. She was so frightened she ran all the way there with her friends by her side. Grandma shouted to Masha’s friends
“Hide wherever you can and don’t let the bears see you. We must sneak into where Masha is and get her back home.”
Just at that moment, they dived into the bushes because they saw a bear policeman coming. He said to his friend, “I’m sure I heard some’n here Tom”
The children and grandma whispered to each other “Tom is the name, Tom is the name.”
Tom said “I thought I heard some’n too Barry.”
A big burly inspector bear came up and growled “I definitely heard some’n round here.” He got a whole police crew on the job.
Luckily grandma had found a little rabbit hole big enough for all of them and they squeezed down into it and covered it up with brambles they found nearby. “That was a lucky find” whispered grandma.
Grandma went down the tunnel. It was dark and damp. The tunnel led to Masha’s mansion. After ten minutes Grandma came back with Masha. They got out of the tunnel but had no idea the police bears were waiting for them outside. The bears pounced on them but missed Masha. They got Grandma. Masha dove back down the tunnel. She wrote a note to her friend bear saying “Thanks for the mansion but I’m going home now. See ya later alligator, in a while crocodile.” She went back through the tunnel and dropped the note off at her mansion. When the bear came in later that day and found the note, he was so angry that he ruined Masha’s mansion with a wrecking ball. Masha rescued all her friends and her Grandma and they all went back to her warm cosy Grandma’s house.
THE END
Fantastic Nadine! Well done for making some edits from yesterday. Using ‘growled’ for the Big Burly Bear is a perfect description!
Masha ran and ran. She looked backwards and saw the bear running after her. Even though she was scared she felt brave. She felt in her pocket and found a torch. She put it on to blind the bear. This worked and she got away into the woods. While the bear was running in the wrong direction she dug up a hole and made a bear trap. She covered the hole with stick and then leaves to disguise it. When the bear came past it felt down the hole and was trapped. Masha tamed the bear and turned him into a servant for her grandparents.
The End
Albert ???
Excellent work Albert. I love that phrase: “even though she was scared, she felt brave” – so descriptive!
When Masha got to the bear’s home, she was amazed that the house was so big, and she couldn’t stop looking at the house. The bear pushed her into the house like she had nothing to see. When they got into the house the bear said to Masha you need to cook me dinner and scrub the floor and wash my trousers. Then Masha said I don’t want to do those jobs, but the bear said I don’t care if you don’t want to do the jobs. After that, the bear said now go to bed, but Masha didn’t sleep a wink because she was thinking of a plan. Then she thought of a plan and went out of the house in the middle of the night. The next morning, she went to her grandma’s house and when she met her grandma, she was very upset and cross with Masha.
Well done Marisa! I’m so glad that Masha could escape. The bear’s house sounds amazing – can you tell me more about it?
Good morning Year 2. You have all been working hard and I have enjoyed reading all your stories. I hope you had a nice weekend and did some fun things with your family.
