Good morning Year 6! Well done for your work yesterday

Today we are focusing on Grammar.

For a starter, please complete the questions below in your Home Learning Book.

Please visit these websites to revise the above terminology:

BBC Teach: What are prefixes?

BBC Bitesize: What are synonyms?

BBC Bitesize: What is a noun?

BBC Bitesize: What is a verb?

BBC Bitesize: What are modal verbs?

The future and the immediate future tense are both used to talk about what will happen in the future.

The future tense is used to talk about what will happen in the future. The future tense is often used with time phrases such as:

The past tense is used for things that have already happened.

After you complete the above task in your book, try this activity which will require you to change a text from present tense to past tense:

Change present tense to past tense

The answers can be found here: ANSWERS Change present tense to past tense

In the comments below, write a short paragraph in present, past or future tense and your classmates can reply guessing which tense it is in!

Please proof-read for spelling or grammar errors before submitting your comment! How to proofread your writing: BBC: How to proofread

I look forward to reading your responses,

  1. ELIZAELIZAELIZAELIZAELIZAELIZAELIZAELIZA says:

    Good morning!
    Here is my writing

Yesterday I went to the park to take my dog out for a walk,
But then it started to rain. Me and my sister were annoyed so we just walked in the rain. The rain was really heavy so we went to the nearest shop to get dry.

  2. Mrs Avdiu says:

HI Eliza. Please check ‘me and my sister’ as this is not grammatically correct. Could you start your sentence ‘The rain…’ differently so it is more exciting?

  3. Hello everyone I hope you are all ok this is my blog for today I hope you like it:

    (1) Re-play, anti-social and re-appear.

    (2) Shout – yell, hot – popular or feverish, small – little, short, angry – annoyed and inflamed, special – unique. Yesterday was my mums birthday and I didn’t want to shout at her. It was a nice relaxing hot summery day. When I went for a walk in the park I saw a small little lost bunny. When my cousins came over they got angry at me because I wouldn’t let them come in my room. I made a clay figure at a friend’s house and it is special to me now.

    (3) I am going to the shop on Monday. It will be raining so I will take my spotty umbrella and wear my matching coat. I will probably browse a while I will probably buy some chocolate and a magazine. When I get home again I will for sure curl up on my sofa.

    (4) Tomorrow I MIGHT go to the cinema although I know I SHOULD complete my homework. [ Should is a modal verb and so is might.] Sarah WILL make it to the end of the marathon. [ Will is a modal verb.]

    Challenge:

My cousins in Spain are coming over soon and I cant wait to see them, so I can show them around London. Also I think my grandma is coming too with them but it is going to be pretty tight sharing one house with eight people, but I think we will be able to do it. The best part about when they come is that although its three boys and one girl we have fun together.

  4. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hi Claudia- I think you’re on the year 6 blog but it’s okay, you’ve done it now 🙂 Please note I am setting and managing both blogs so always check the top which says ‘Good morning year ___’. That paragraph sounds very exciting if it is true! Please check your apostrophes – cant and its do not have them and they need one!

  5. Hello Mrs I have done my grammar starter.

  6. Mrs Avdiu says:

Great. How did you find it?

  7. Here is my paragraph:

I really enjoy going to the park as it makes me feel much more free whilst in lockdown.
However I will not go to the park today because the forecast said that it would rain later on today. I could always do something else like painting a picture or read a book.

  8. Mrs Avdiu says:

Well done Elly. I really am grateful for our parks too!

  9. Here is my paragraph:

Tomorrow may be boring, but I know it will be fun, because although everything is the same everyday, there’s always one thing that makes me happy. I may enjoy my biking, I may enjoy my time on the piano, but deep down I know, that what keeps me happy, is work, food and love.

  10. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hi Ethan! It’s nice to hear from you on the blogs. Please check your punctuation as there is a lot of comma splicing in your writing. I love that you enjoy biking and are making the most out of your days 🙂

  11. Hey Miss Avdiu! I only have one page of my home learning book left, what do I do.

  12. Mrs Avdiu says:

That’s brilliant- it is because you’ve been working hard! Do you have another empty book or paper you could use? It doesn’t have to be a yellow book 🙂

  13. Miss Gorick says:

It’s great to read all your comments 🙂 well done Year 6! I miss you all x

  14. I was doing my work when my mom came into the room. She said we were going shopping and so we did.
