Good Morning Year 2!

Click here for a printable version of this blog post: Monday English printable

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed doing something fun with your families. I loved chatting to you all last week – it was wonderful to hear your voices and to find out all the exciting things you have been doing.

Lots of you told me how much reading you have been doing. Don’t forget to update the blog. There are so many book recommendations there for you if you’re stuck with what to read next.

This week we’re going to look at some poems. These poems can be found in a book called ‘Little Lemur Laughing Poem’. We’ll be looking at the first three poems this week. Scan the QR code below to see it on a table or click on the link for a printable version: Little Lemur Laughing extract

Before we do the main activity, can you answer these questions about the poems:

In the poem ‘What’s In A Poem?’:

1.Can you name 5 things they mention?

2. In the first verse, there are 3 words that rhyme, bumblebee, wallaby and chimpanzee. Can you find three words that rhyme in the 3rd verse?

In the poem ‘Lemurs’

3. What is special about the words in the first line of each verse?

4. In the fourth verse, what do you think ‘latching’ means?

In the poem ‘What Am I Like?

5. Which word rhymes with ‘bed’?

6. Why is cheetah a good animal to describe them ‘darting home from school’?

Now you can choose which activity you want to do:

Let us know in the comments below which activity you do and say how it went.

If you want to record any of your performances, then you can send them to me and I will try my best to find a way to share them on the blog. The homework uploader doesn’t work for videos, so you’ll have to send them to the office email. If it doesn’t work, then don’t worry – just have fun performing them to your family!

  1. Sophia P says:

    Good morning Miss Carruthers,

    1. A busy buzzy bumblebee, a dragon’s sneeze, a happy hopping wallaby, a dinosaur and a cheeky chatty chimpanzee.
    2. Lane, Spain and train
    3. Each line of the first verse has three words: the first word is always an adjective (it describes a noun), the second word is always a noun (here it is a thing) and the third word is always a verb (here it has an ing at the end; a verb is a being/doing word).
    4. Latching: I used the dictionary to understand the word: the lemur drinks his mummy’s milk like a baby (breastfeeding)
    5. Head
    6. Because they go quickly home from school and don’t stop (it would worry the mum if they take long home).

My favourite poem was What Am I Like because I sometimes love to pretend to be an animal. I sometimes like to be a unicorn because they are beautiful and have magical powers.
