As you know we have been learning all about William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. A story full of magic!Â
After Propero and Miranda were sent away and Prospero’s magic tempest caused the ship to sink, we now have all of our characters on an unknown island…
Can you write a short sentence or phrase explaining each of the main characters? This will help to remind us who each of the characters are and their role in the story.
When you have done that, you can watch part 3 of the story by visiting the Primary Shakespeare Company’s website here.
After watching part 3, try the quiz to check you understood everything that has happened so far.

Task 1:
Prospero is the protagonist (leading role) of the play. Prospero is a character who is the reader can relate to. He is mistreated by his brother and is usually making sure everyone gets their fair share (including taking revenge).
Miranda is not the lead character of The Tempest, although she is very important to the story. Miranda is the beautiful young daughter of Prospero. She is a calm, loving and gentle soul, although she can get a bit mischiveous!
Antonio is the evil brother of Prospero and the uncle of Miranda. He sends Prospero and Miranda out to sea in a boat filled with holes, with the help of his old friend Alonso, to take over Prospero’s job and become Duke of Milan.

4) The word ‘ toil ‘ means worked.
5) Caliban hides under his cloak because he is afraid that Prospero has sent some of his spirits to torment him.
6) It is Trinculo that ‘ wandered across the shore until he spied the cloak and the ugly legs and feet.’
7) Trinculo thinks that Caliban is a fish. I think this because in the text it says,” “A fish; he smells like a fish; a very ancient fish like smell…” .”

I have watched part 3 and answered the quiz. I am enjoying learning about The Tempest.
Task 3:
1. The weather was thundery and overcast.
2. Since the weather was so bad these people decided to describe the bay as grey and miserable.
3. The words unkind and angry are the two words that tell us Prospero does not treat Caliban well.
4. Toiled means worked.
5. Caliban hid under his cloak because he thought that the person who was coming up to him was another spirit that Prospero had sent to him.
6. Trinculo was the one who “wandered across the shore until he spied the cloak and ugly legs and feet”.
7. When Trinculo pokes at the cloak he thinks that the creature under the cloak is a fish. I know this because in the text it says, “A fish; he smells like a fish; a very ancient and fish like smell…”.
8. I think Trinculo shuts his eyes and holds his nose because Caliban smells so bad that he doesn’t want to breath his smell into his lungs and body.
9. Stephano had floated to land on a big barrel of wine!
10. Stephano was the butler of Alonso, the King of Naples.
11. Trinculo and Stephano were both so happy to see each other alive because after the storm they must have thought that everyone was dead, so they were relieved to see each other alive.
