English Task Click here for a printable version of this task
Well done for your reading work yesterday. You wrote some excellent setting descriptions that made me want to visit the forest!
Today’s focus is: Grammar
Recap:
Adverbs are words that describe verbs. The choir sang loudly. They can tell you how, when and how often the verb was done. He played quietly. I never eat beans.
Coordinating Conjunctions are words or phrases that join two parts of a sentence. I went to the shop, and I bought some bread. Other conjunctions that join two main clauses:
You can remember them as the FANBOYS joining words.
There are also lots of conjunctions you can use to join a main clause to asubordinate clause. These are called subordinating conjunctions. Ella felt cold aftershe swam in the lake. main clauseconjunctionsubordinate clause
These conjunctions can also go at the start of a sentence. After she swam in the lake, Ella felt cold.
Commands give instructions or orders. They always have a verb that gives an order. Put me down. Stop that!
Task 1 Answer the questions below. Before posting on the blog, read over your work to check punctuation and grammar. If you forget what some of the key words mean then remember to look at the recap above to help you.
Task 2 We are going to focus on the four different sentence types.
Statements – Statements are sentences which tell you something. They end with a full stop. Questions – Questions are sentences that ask you something. They usually end with a question mark. Commands – Commands are sentences that tell you to do something. They are often urgent or angry and can be very short. Exclamations – Exclamations are sentences that begin with ‘what’ or ‘how’. They are full sentences, include a verb and end with an exclamation mark.
Task Complete the questions A and B on the worksheet HERE. You can either complete your answers in your homework book or post them on the blog!
