Good morning Class 4!

Just a little reminder to please make sure you only comment on the blog using your name, not the name of someone else. Thank you.

I hope you are all okay! I am missing you all a lot!

Today, as I am sure you all know, we begin our weekly writing task…

Imagine that you are stranded on the desert island with all of the characters from The Tempest. You are a journalist and you want to report on some of the incredible things that have happened on the island!

Your task this week is to plan and write a newspaper report, based on one of the two amazing things that happen in Act 4. Choose one of the events to write a newspaper report on:

The Magic Washing Line
A report that apparently a mysterious washing line was spotted by three people on the island. It was hung with rich, silk clothes but then apparently disappeared and the people who found it were chased away by dogs….

Or

The Wedding Masque
A report that a wedding took place on the island between a young man, Ferdinand, and young woman, Miranda. The wedding was a beautiful affair, with fine food, music and even attended by the three goddesses, Iris, Juno and Ceres.

As you know, on Thursday’s we plan/prepare our writing. Today, please can you either write your headline and the first paragraph of your report OR send in your plan of you report. I will then give you feedback and then tomorrow you can write your final versions of your newspaper reports!

  2. Miss Lee says:

  3. amarissa says:

    hello miss
    week six is out!

MAN AND JESTER GET EATEN BY WOLFES by Amarissa
yesterday, two men,in a cave, were planning to kill a young man called Alonso.the cave he was sleeping in, they went inside.
inside they found a washing line full of clothes.carelessely, the jester and man dressed up in royal gowns, and crowns, and coated themselves with piles of clothing.

but just then, when they where finishing off their makeovers, a wicked howl blinded the island.the howls where getting closer and closer and closer until..howl was no more. the growling had begun.the silly men looked around, blankly, seeing that there was drool on the floor…helplessely, they fell to he floor, frightened ,and begging for mercy.before they knew anything, the next thing they knew was that they where being watched.by dogs.so you think, aaawww, their so cute!why would they hurt?no, no, these where the size of wolfs.

when they exited the cave, ended up in bruises, swollen fingers and hands, and hair ripped out of their beautiful bodies.

  4. Done !

  5. Miss Lee says:

Great! If you can send in a photo of your work then I can give you some feedback before writing the rest of your report tomorrow.

  6. Miss Lee says:

    Hello Amarissa!
Is it? Great thank you for letting me know! Have you seen the final film yet?
Oh my that headline would definitely catch people’s eyes! A great idea starting with the word ‘yesterday’ as it reports exactly when the events happened! Well done for writing so much already! Super work!
Try to make sure your writing reports the events rather than tells a story. It can be tricky to tell the different but a report should be written to inform the readers of what has happened, a story entertains readers and helps them imagine what has happened.
Try to have your main idea as the mysterious washing line appearing and no one knows where it came from.

  7. do we have to youse a template

  8. Miss Lee says:

No you don’t have to! It is there to help if you need it though!

  9. amarissa says:

yes, miss I have.thank you.i will try to improve

  10. Miss Lee says:

  13. Hello Miss lee. I have done my headline and started my small summary.

  14. Miss Lee says:

Great! If you send a photo or write it on the blog I can give some feedback!

    HAUTE COUTURE WASHING LINE

Yesterday some fabulous clothes ??appeared by magic on a washing line in a remote island ?

by Paolo Galliani, Travel correspondent @paolo

Last week I arrived on this faraway island with lots of trees, caves and a lovely beach. I thought I was alone here. On the contrary yesterday I found the first cave gleaming: I peeked inside and found people trying on the most extraordinary clothes. The jackets were made of velvet with gold fur all around the neck and also real gold buttons. They were all hanging on washing lines. After few minutes the clothes disappeared and there was no gleaming light anymore but just the normal darkness of a cave. And a second later I heard dogs coming so I jumped into a bush.
In the evening I followed the people who were in the cave trying clothes. I did finally meet them: their names were Stephano and Trinculo and there was also a weird guy called Caliban. Stephano and Trinculo told me “we have never tried clothes better than those!” and I truly believe them!
This morning I met another man on the island, called Prospero, and he claimed that he did all this with his magic.

For more details on the story. You could read The Tempest by William Shakespeare or watch it at the theatre.

  16. Miss Lee says:

Hello Paolo! I am so impressed with how much you have written this morning! Well done!
You have included a date, the reporters name, a headline and a leading paragraph.
For the main body of your writing, can you edit so it is not written in first person. Remember this is a newspaper report so as a journalist you would have listened to the story from someone else and asked them questions to find out more, then written about it for the newspaper.

  17. Unusual marriage on an island

A wedding has happened on a remote island. Ferdinand, the son of king Alonso has married Miranda, the daughter of the duke of Milan. It was a magnificent party with the most unusual guests attending.

  18. Miss Lee says:

Well done Pablo! A great start and I look forward to reading the rest of your report!
    Just some punctuation corrections…
For your headline make sure every word starts with a capital letter.
Also a capital letter for Duke and a comma after ‘the son of King Alonso’ as this is a drop-in clause.

  19. Good morning everyone,
Today I have done my work in my yellow home learning book and I will soon send in my photo to you! I was just wondering, Miss Lee, if we should send in our work of today now or send it in when we’ve finished our newspaper report.
I hope to see you soon!

  20. Miss Lee says:

Hello Elisa, well done for working so hard! If you send in what you have done today I can write you some feedback before you continue writing the rest.

  21. Send you the work

  22. Miss Lee says:

    Thank you Albert!

  23. Miss Lee says:

Albert I have not received your work, could you maybe send it again? Thank you!

    There was a Wedding that
Ferdinand, the son of king Alonso has married the daughter of duke of Milan had a very imaginative party

  25. Miss Lee says:

Well done Karter! You have included the date, your name as the reporter and you have written your leading paragraph!
I’m your paragraph, check there is a capital letter for King and Duke as these are their titles. Also read back through and check for any missing words such as the daughter of the Duke of Milan. They had a very imaginative party.

  26. THE BELLS ARE RINGING
    DING DONG

Tmorrow morning it is a big day for two people, Ferdinand and Miranda because they were getting married, but they weren’t happy, I went over and interviewed them so I asked them why feel so down it’s your big day, they said” it’s because we’re on an island we have no furniture to build benches zxor a rug to walk on, i replayed happily “don’t worry about everything, you just prepare your close out of bamboo, leaves and pretty shell fish, I will tell the builders to start working on the benches and the bouquet ?.

It’s wedding day eve everything is almost done we just need to prepare the fine food, music and it was even attended by three goddesses, Iris, Ceres and Juno.

Today is the big day everything ready everyone ready said prospero {croud applusing} I hear by Miranda and Ferdinand husband and wife {croud says through the bouquet ?.

  27. Miss Lee says:

    Hi Ciana!
I love the headline… Very catchy!
What you have written sounds good, you have explained all of the details and you and included a quote from someone attending the wedding… Super work!
Just make sure all of your report is written in the 3rd person not the 1st person. So there shouldn’t be words like ‘I’ or ‘we’.

  28. Here is my first paragraph:
Clothes That magically Appear Turn Out To Be A Trap, Set By Prospero!
    By travel correspondent Vincent ABC@outlook.com

On a deserted island, two shipwrecked humans and a monster where chased by vicious hounds, the size of wolves ? when they put on some clothes fit for a king, which had appeared mysteriously in a cave.

  29. Miss Lee says:

    Hello Vincent!
Well done, you have included a date, your name as the reporter and you have written your leading paragraph!
Just check your spellings of similar words for example “where” in line 3 should be “were”

  30. Raimundo says:

Hi Miss Lee! I decided to write mine here.

    WEDDING ON THE ISLAND!

    By Raimundo, a Newspaper reporter.

Yesterday investigators travelled on a boat to an Island. It looked like a wedding was taken on the island! How mysterious is that!? We got told it was between a young man, named Ferdinand and a young girl, named Miranda. The investigators even got a meal (I wish I could have some.)!

We also got a chat with the father of Miranda, Prospero. He said “I tried to stop Ferdinand to fall in love with my daughter, so I made him my slave. I was testing on him and then let him fall in love with my daughter, and that’s how this all happened.”
Wow, that is a story, and also the wedding was attended by three goddesses, Iris, Juno and Ceres. The food was fine, and somehow they got music! (Impressive!) As you know, the investigators got to the island on a boat. And everyone fitted inside and back they went home.

  31. Miss Lee says:

    Hi Raimundo!
Well done, I can see you have been very busy! You have included a date, the headline, your name and written the main body of your report, great work!
Just make sure your report is not written in the first person (so avoid words like ‘I’ and ‘we’) also, check you past tense verbs (‘fitted’ is not grammatically correct it should just be ‘fit’)

  32. I have done my head line.

  33. I have sent my work to you.

  34. Miss Lee says:

    Great thank you!

  35. THE MASTER WEDDING
The Master Wedding of Ferdinand and Miranda took place on an island at midday. The many guests Prospero, Caliban, Trinculo, Stephano and the wedding spirits danced and cheered happily for the celebration as the couple united.

  36. Miss Lee says:

Hi Ajay! This is a wonderful start to your newspaper report well done!
As you continue writing see if you can add in some quotes from some of the guests but make sure they are not too long!

  37. Miss Lee says:

    Elisa…
Thank you for sending in your work. You have included a headline and you have written your leading paragraph! In your first paragraph you have introduced what the report is going to be about very clearly with just enough detail to make the reader want to read on, very well done!
Just make sure your report is not written in 1st person, it should not have words such as ‘we’ or ‘I’.
Also, check your capital letters, some of them have appeared in the middle of sentences.

  38. Miss Lee says:

    Sophie…
Thank you for sending in your work! You have carefully planned your report which will make it much easier for you when you come to writing it, well done! Just make sure when you come to writing it there is more detail and not loads of quotes (the ones you have written should be enough).
Check your punctuation inside your inverted commas before writing the report in full. See the example below…
    “Hello everyone!” exclaimed Sophie.

    *~MIRANDA AND FERDINAND’S MAGICAL WEDDING!~*
    By: Clare

Yesterday, journalists (including me) sailed and investigated a wedding taking place on a mysterious island. We have spotted 3 goddesses named Juno, Ceres and Iris. Other unknown spirit attended the wedding dancing with glee as a sweet sound filled the air.

  40. Miss Lee says:

    William…
Thank you so much for sending in your work. It is SO neat I am very, very impressed. Well done! Super work for including quotes from witnesses. Just make sure these are not too long. They should be one sentence, maybe 2. You should write most of the story as the reporter to inform the reader of what happened and then the quotes should add extra information.

  41. I sent my template to you by uploading it.

  42. Miss Lee says:

Hi Rafael, thank you for sending in your work!
A great plan and it is clear you now know exactly what to write in each section of your report. Your quotes are relevant and short, great work.
Just remember to keep your writing in chronological order so first the mysterious washing line appeared, then they were chased by dogs.
I look forward to reading your report!
