Our next topic in Year 4 will be the Extreme Earth!
The Earth is our home and it is our responsibility to care for it. Natural disasters are becoming more frequent and more extreme as a result of climate change. These disasters demonstrate the immense power of nature and remind us to always respect and look after the most special of planets.
This is a very exciting topic and we will be learning all about how these natural disasters happen and what we can do to prevent them.
Each week you will have Curriculum homework which links to our topic posted on Google Classroom. You will be able to use the skills and knowledge from the homework in our lessons!
Homework will commence from Monday 10th January.

I think the rising temperature causes more water to evaporate causing bigger storms which means more damage. Also, the temperature is rising because of global warming!

1)I think that the differences of temperature are moistrue, pressure and wind.They make weather because hot and cold together makes different weather.
2) Yes I have heard when volcanoes erupt and the lava damaged the houses. I have also heard that if it rains too much for too long, houses can get flooded. In the news, I saw a hurricane in the US destroying villages what is called Mayfield.
3) I am so excited to learn more about how the climate changes.

1. Weather is made up of six main components. These are temperature, atmospheric, pressure, cloud formation, wind, humidity and water cycle.
2. Some natural disasters that I’ve seen and heard of are earthquake, tsunami, floods, hurricane, tornado, volcano and thunderstorm.
3. How does the volcano erupt?
Does the volcano crack at the top because of the pressure?
1. I think the weather happens when sunlight warms the atmosphere, air swirls around the world. This is the movement of air that makes all of the weather happen.
2. I have heard about hurricanes. A hurricane is a huge storm. I have read that in different parts of the world a hurricane has a different name. It is called a typhoon or a cyclone. I heard about tsunamis. A tsunami happens when a huge undersea earthquake takes part in the ocean. It causes a gigantic wave which destroys everything in its path. For example there was a huge tsunami on the 26 December 2004 around the Indian Ocean which killed over 225,000 people. I heard about tornadoes, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
3. I would like to find out about tsunamis and events that are also caused by them. And I would also like to find out how one can stop these events happening.
1) l Think that water cycle,humidity,wind and light makes the weather happen.
2)Some natural disaster that l have seen are big thunderstorm and thunderbolts but l also heard about Volcanoes,erupting,tornados,tsunamis and floods
3)l would like to learn more about volcanoes and how they érupt without forgetting to learn how they are made and how they happen.

1. Weather on earth is caused by heat from the sun and movement from the air. All the weather happens in the lower layer of the earths atmosphere, which is the layer of gases surrounding the earth. The sun’s heat warms the air in this layer to different temperature levels in different places.

1.I think what makes weather is cold and hot because if you mix them it could make lots of different weathers that even hurt us!
2.some natural disasters that I have heard is earthquakes, hurricane, Volcanoes, Floods, Blizzard,storms,Fire, tsunamis and a crazy tornado!
3.I would like to most figure out is all the natural disasters and what they can do!I also want to know more about what can happen to the climate in all disasters!!
2.I have learnt and heard about tornado’s,hurricane’s, drought’s,avalanches,rockslides,mudslides,tsunamis volcanoes and wirlpools!The most costly and dangerous are the mega tsunamis which are extremely rare !
3.I would like to find out more about the mega tsunamis and super volcanoes because since they are extremely rare people know little about them.

2.l know that earthquakes can cause houses to collapse and roads to break.Floods drown cars and even houses! I’ve also heard that volcanos destroys anything that it touches.
3.l would like to know what makes a tsunami happen.

3. I don’t know what i want to learn this topic but the start was fun.
(1). Climate tells us what kinds of weather ussally happen in an area at different times of the year. Changes in weather can affect our mood and life. We wear different clothes and do things in different weather conditions. We choose different food in different seasons.
(2). A natural disaster I have seen was when I was on the motorway in Malaysia and there was a thunderstorm and there was a lot of lightning!
(3). I would really like to know about how these natural disasters happen.

1. Weather happens because of lots of different things. Like pressure, wind and rain. Weather is constantly changing. Weather in one part of the world effects weather in every other part, because it is all connected.
2. An island near Gran Canaria had a volcano near it and it erupted. 5000 people were evacuated. The most famous volcanic eruption ever was Pompeii . 2000 people died in the eruption in Pompeii of mouth Vesuvius . You can still visit there today . Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79CE .
3. I would like to find out how are volcanoes erupt how they are made and how tornadoes are formed!
1)I think weather happens due to air pressure, and temperature.
2)I have heard about a earthquake and volcano on news.
3) I would like to learn about earthquakes because they are really interesting during this topic.
1.) Weather is made up of temperature, clouds, atmospheric pressure, rain, wind, and humidity. Changes between these will cause different weather patterns.
2.) I’ve heard about Hurricane Katrina which happened in the USA in 2005, and the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami which affected Indonesia, India, and Sri Lanka.
3.) I would like to find out more about what causes extreme weather patterns like volcano eruptions, tsunamis, and earthquakes.
1) Weather happens because different parts of the world get different amounts of heat from the sun. The movement of the air and the heat from the sun make the weather.
2) Earthquakes ,tornadoes , tsunamis, floods and hurricanes are all natural disasters . We felt an earthquake happen when we were on holiday in Greece last year. The earth shook a lot under our feet and the water in the sea was very rough and dangerous .
3) I am most looking forward to learning about tsunamis and why they happen because I don’t really know much about them yet.
