Hello Class 4!
Here is your first maths task of the week. Please remember to always ask me for help if you need it, even on the challenge questions! Today I am at school so I won’t be able to approve and reply to comments as often as I would like to but I will try to check as often as I can and make sure I read all of your comments later in the day.

WORKBOOK: 4A
CHAPTER: 6
WORKSHEETS: 1 and 2
EXTENSION: Worksheet 3
In class we covered most of the pages from this chapter. However, please remember that we are now revisiting previous topics to revise what we have learnt. If you find you have completed these pages in your Maths No Problem book, go back through them and see if you can remember how to work out the answers. Check your work with the answers on the Maths No Problem pages. Then try the extension and challenge questions.
FRACTIONS
This week we will be looking at fractions.
Need some reminding about fractions? Click here to watch a short video clip.
Counting in Hundredths
One hundredth is one part of 100 and is written as a fraction like this ¹/₁₀₀. The denominator is 100.
If all of the hundredths are shaded that makes one whole or 1.
We can also show hundredths on a number line, like this:
To get to 1, the number line would need to go all the way to 99/100 and then 1
Now try worksheet 1

Writing Mixed Numbers
A mixed number is a number made up of whole numbers and fractions. Therefore, mixed numbers are always greater than 1.
Have a look at the example below. There are 2 whole cakes and the final cake has been cut into 6 pieces (sixths) with one piece missing. That means there are 5 sixths left of the final cake or 5/6
As a mixed number, we would write it like this:
Let’s look at one more example…
There are 4 shapes, each shape has been cut in half or 1/2
The first 3 shapes are fully shaded so that means there are 3 wholes.
The final shape, only half of it is shaded so, 1/2
Now try worksheet 2

Fancy a challenge?
Have a look at the question sheet below. You might want to pick one or two to have a go at or you might want to try all of them, it’s up to you!
