Good Morning Class 4!
Hopefully you found using ‘Maths No Problem’ no problem yesterday 😀
Thinking about our current topic and the theme of yesterday’s work we are going to continue looking at measurement in maths. Yesterday in English you wrote a recipe for a magic potion.Â
Think about what units we usually measure in…
We can measure anything from time to length to weight to temperature.
Today we will be looking at measuring mass.
When you measure mass you usually use grams (g) or kilograms (kg).
You can weigh mass on a weighing scale like this:
You may have used something similar for baking or cooking.
Kilo means 1000 so there are 1000 grams in 1 kilogram (1000g = 1kg).
Have a look at this question before you get started on your own:
How would we write this in kilograms (kg)?
Well, first let’s write it as grams (g).
We know there is 1kg and that equals 1000g.
There is also an additional 200g so that makes 1200g (1000 + 200 = 1200).
To change write it in kilograms, we simply need to divide it by 1000.
This is because 1kg is the same as 1000g. To get from 1 to 1000 we have multiplied our number by 1000, so to get from grams to kilograms we do the opposite.
So 1200 divided by 1000 is 1.2kg.

Hi Miss Lee,
I think I have a problem. I don’t know how to access to the ‘maths no problem’ worksheet.
Would you be able to help us out?
Hi Elisa, ask mum to check her emails, she should have been sent log in details. It may have gone to her junk mail. If you still have trouble let me know and I will help!
Hi Miss! I did my MNP on my MNP book.
That is great well done!
I have also done it on a piece of paper and checked my results against the answers… is this fine?
Hi Paolo, yes that is absolutely fine! Sometimes it is easier to do the tasks on paper or it is just nice to have a break from working on a computer or device!
