Printer-friendly version: Monday Maths blog June 1
Good morning everyone,
I hope you had a lovely half-term!
As you may be aware, the phased return to schools has begun and this week some classes (not Year 5) will return to school. This means Miss Gorick will be in school teaching Year 6 so I will be setting and responding to blogs for the Y6 children who have chosen to stay at home. I will continue to set and respond to blogs for you all too but it means my replies may take a little longer than usual as I will be replying to both classes as well as working to create blogs for both classes for the foreseeable future. Thank you for understanding.
Today is INSET day which means all the teachers (including me) will be in school preparing for this phased return to school. I will not be able to approve or respond to comments until later today. Sorry!
Today we will continue to consolidate and refine addition skills and place-value knowledge to solve addition problems.
There are a variety of questions you may ask yourself throughout the process of using the cards. These might include finding: the largest sum you can make, the smallest sum you can make, the largest and smallest numbers you can make, combinations of 5-digit numbers added together to get a sum of a 5-digit number, the smallest 5-digit sum you can get, the largest 5-digit sum you can get, the smallest 6-digit sum you can get and the largest 6-digit sum you can get.
Revise how to add and subtract using place value columns here:
Once you have completed the Maths No Problem work (you can find blank worksheets online if you have already completed this at school), then please try the challenge: nrich prob + & –
This is an open-ended maths puzzle so answers cannot be posted as they vary so much. It is simply a fun game to try out at home with family!
In this maze there are numbers in each of the cells. You go through adding all the numbers that you pass. You may not go through any cell more than once.
Can you find a way through in which the numbers add to exactly 100?
Please share in the comments:
What is the lowest number you can make going through the maze?
What is the highest number you can make going through the maze? (Remember you should not go through any cell more than once)
You could also try this if you didn’t do it last time:
Answer: answers to muffin problem solving
