Workbook: 5A
Chapter: 3 Multiplication and Division
Lesson: 15 Multiplying a 3 Digit Number with a 2 Digit Number(continued) and 16 Dividing by 10, 100 and 1000
Printer-friendly version:Friday maths blog
Good morning Year 5!
Today, you can continue with multiplying a 3 digit number with a 2 digit number – please see yesterday’s blog for instructions on how to do this.
Also, please have a look at this: BBC Bitseize: How to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000
After that, you will be revising division by dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.
When we multiply by 10, 100 and 1000 we shift the decimal point to the right. One place right for 10, two places right for 100 and three places right for 1000. When we divide by 10, 100 and 1000 we do the opposite and shift the decimal point to the left instead.
This place value chart may help:
You can then use this knowledge of dividing by 1000, 100 and 10 to divide by other multiples of 10… like so:
As you can see, once you know that 8000 divided by 10 is 800, this helps us to know that dividing it by 20 would equal 400. Remember, the number gets smaller as you divided not bigger! Here are some more demonstrations:
To consolidate your learning further, try this fun activity: Colour by Numbers Dividing by 10 100 and 1000 (if you don’t have a printer or colours, you can write the answers in your book!)
Once you have completed the worksheets (please complete these online if you have already done them in your book), you can try the extension: Friday extension – Divide by 10 100 and 1000
The answers can be found here: Answers – Divide by 10 100 and 1000
Good luck!
Please write in the comments if you have any questions.
Have a lovely weekend!

Thank you Kayla! You too!
Dear Mrs Avdiu,
please could you give us some worksheets that we have not already done? I have my book and all of the recent worksheets have already been completed in class. Can you please give us some pages from chapter 4.
Hi Marco, all classes will have completed the MNP worksheets so we are all at the revision stage for the last term of school. You can try the worksheets again online as they are blank online and then compare your answers to before. You are welcome to complete Chapter 4 in your own time but as we only have a few more weeks of school, we will be moving on to fractions next week as this is a very important one to revise, don’t you think? I have also posted videos and links as well as consolidation and extension work so you have plenty to do if you don’t wish to revisit the worksheets 🙂
Hello everyone! I hope your well.
I done the math with Angieli on Facetime and we helped each other throughout.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
That’s great girls 🙂
Hi everyone,
I have done today’s maths and the extension work. My favourite question on the extension work was the one about the planets!
Hope to see you soon,
Regan
Glad you liked it! Please do not share your full name online (online safety).
Hello everyone, I finished the worksheets earlier and will try the extension now. Also, I agree with Marco, most of the worksheets that we are doing for the blogs, we have already done.
Hi Zavan, please see my response to Marco as this will explain why.
