Workbook: 6B
Chapter: 7 Percentage
Lesson: 2 and 3-Percentage of a quantity and Percentage change. (Complete lesson 1 if you need some extra practice!)
Good morning Year 6 and Happy Friday!
Please see the details of your lesson for today.
This week we have been looking at ‘Fractions, Decimals and Percentages’ and today we are focusing on ‘Percentages’.
Remember…
The sign % stands for ‘per cent’ which means ‘out of 100’.
e.g. 40% means ’40 out of 100′
11% means ’11 out of 100′
Percentage/decimal
To change a percentage to a decimal, divide by 100.
e.g. Change 48% to a decimal: 48 ÷ 100 = 0.48
To change a decimal to a percentage, multiply by 100.
e.g. Change 0.67 to a percentage: 0.67 x 100 = 67%
Percentage of a number or quantity
Finding percentage of a number or a quantity is simple! You just need to remember to use the formula (look at the colours to help you).
(n÷100) x y=
e.g 50% of 500 =
(500÷100)x 50=25
e.g. 16% of 200=
(200÷100)x 16=32
Remember to complete the calculation in the brackets () first!
