Today we are going to look at two step word problems. These can be particularly tricky, so don’t worry if you find them confusing. Have a go! The best way to do it is to break it down and keep reading the question to make sure you have done everything. Use CUBES to help you make sure you have properly understood the question and know exactly what it is asking you to do.
In all these questions today, you will have to do two steps. This means there will be at least two calculations you have to do to find the final answer. Sometime they break down the question for you (using part a and part b) but make sure you read the question again carefully to make sure you are doing the correct calculation.
*The best way to work these out is to keep practising. If you want more practise then have a go at these ones: Two step word problems You will need to think carefully about whether the question is asking you to add or take away. Use CUBES to help you. Parents can click on this link for the answers: Answers for two step word problems In some questions, some of you might prefer to take away, others would rather count on. It is up to you, both will get the same answer. In the answers, I have written out both number sentences to show both options.
*If you found it hard, then keep practising your addition and subtraction facts so that you can build your confidence in this area. That will make it much easier to solve word problems!
I completed my two worksheets also it was hard but still fun.
Well done Layla, it is hard but I’m glad you persevered and were able to complete it.
Dear Miss Carruthers,
I did the worksheets and found them ok. I found yesterday’s word problems more difficult than today (probably because today we worked with the Cubes sheet ?).
Greetings from Sophia ?
Amazing Sophia! I’m so glad that CUBES helped you today. You probably also learnt more than you realised yesterday and that helped you today! Well done!
Miss I have finished my wok and it was so easy.
Well done! We all found this quite hard when we first did it at school, so I am pleased that the extra practise has helped you understand it better and to find it easier 🙂
Sophia completed the worksheets this morning. She needs a little reassurance but is getting more confident the more we practise .
I’m glad her confidence is growing with the practise.
All done.
Well done!
This was too hard for Romey so we did some simpler sums and practised some times tables.
Good idea! Let me know if I can do anything to help.
Dear Miss Carruthers,
I did my worksheets and they were ok.

We finished all worksheets from MNP. It was challenging but with practice it got easier. We will keep practicing!
Amazing girls! I’m glad the practising has helped you understand it better!
The word problems were challenging so we worked through them together.
What a good idea! We do so much work in partners and groups at school, it is great that you have each other to discuss things with when you find worksheets hard.
