Good morning, Year 5!
Happy Friday 🙂
Workbook: 5B
Chapter: 13 Volume
Lesson: 3 and 4 Finding the Volume of Solids and Finding the Capacity of Rectangular Boxes
Volume is the amount of space a 3D shape takes up.
You can work out the volume of a shape by multiplying height × width × depth. If the shape is made of cubic cm blocks, you can count the cubes to find the shape’s volume.
Capacity is the maximum amount that something can contain.
Take a look at this example (with answers):
To work this out, we would use the length, width and height to find the capacity of two cuboid shapes.
We would also be calculating how many specific-sized cubes would fit inside a set capacity.

If you need support:
Revise your times tables and use your knowledge of multiplication to find the capacity!

Challenge:
Try one of these great problems to do with volume.

Marking your answers
As you and your parents now have access to Maths No Problem, I will continue to set daily worksheets for you to complete at home. They may be worksheets that you may have already attempted in class but that’s okay! It’s important that you revise and practise your skills. More information about how to log in to Maths No Problem can be found here.
You do not need to print these worksheets out – you can simply using your yellow books to show your working out and write your answers. You or your parents can then mark it as you now have access to the answers
Therefore you will not be required to write your answer in the blog comments section as before. Please do comment if you need help or have any questions about the task. Also, please read each other’s comments and help each other out if you can! It is important we stay in touch and talk to each other about maths using mathematical language just like we did in the classroom 🙂
Good luck!

Have a great day – happy Friday ⚽
Good morning everyone and Happy Friday!
I only got 1 mistake out of all of the worksheets I have done today but I learned how to do it at the end.
Overall, I found the math really easy and very fun to do!
I hope you have a Happy Friday and a wonderful weekend!
Hi Renee!
I really like the fact that you didn’t give up – you developed your knowledge of capacity/volume in the process, that shows great resilience – well done!
Happy Friday?
Hi Everyone !
I have also finished my maths for today I hope you all have a happy Friday
~Elena ?
Hello everyone,
I just finished the maths and I really enjoyed it.

I hope that you have a great day!
~ Nika ?
I’m so glad you liked the links to Bitesize!
Hi everyone, I did these worksheets and found them quite easy.
You have to times by length, width, and height.
I got all of them right 😀 and I also found it quite fun and easy!
I hope you all have a brilliant day and stay safe!
Kayla 😀 🙂 😀
Thank you everyone for sharing your feedback – I am glad you are enjoying Maths No Problem! Please remember this is a safe space for you to also ask for help if you need it 🙂
