Great work yesterday! I’m impressed so many of you tried the challenge activities!
Today we are going to be answering questions that want us to find the TOTAL AMOUNT. What type of number sentence will we need to do?
Hopefully, you said adding! Be careful not to get your pounds and pence mixed up. Do you remember what we did on Monday? We always added the pounds and then we added the pence separately. Make sure you keep doing this!
Don’t forget to do the Guided Practise to make sure you understand it before you do the Worksheet.
When you are adding two amounts together, if they are 2 digit numbers, then you may like to use column method.
Have a go at Worksheet 8.
As there is only one worksheet today, you can then do this BBC Bitesize lesson all about comparing amounts of money. You’ll need to add the numbers together and use your < and > to show which has more (remember, the crocodile always wants to eat the larger amount!)
Once you have finished this lesson, there are two challenges for you to do. Read the questions carefully, they are similar but there is a statement on the second question that gives more information to the exact answer they want. Can you make up any of your own?
Challenge 1. How many pairs of items can you find that Sid could have bought? Challenge 2: What are the only two items Sid could have bought? Don’t forget to have a go making up your own problems! Read through the comments to see your friends’ problems and have a go answering them 🙂
I’ve done my math?☺️
Sid bought the glasses and the flipflop because 12-9=3 and 12-3=9.
Well done Adrien! Can you find another pair of items that Sid could have bought?
Dear Miss Carruthers,
I have completed the worksheets and they were very fun and easy!
Brilliant work Sophie. Did you try the challenges?
1. the glasses and the sandals
or the towel and the suitcase
2. the towel and the suitcase
Well done for doing the challenge Madeleine. It was lovely to chat to you in the park yesterday 🙂

Well done Sophia. I’m glad you didn’t give up, as the only way to get better is to keep trying 🙂 Great job!
Hi ?? Miss Carruthers,
We did the worksheets for today, they were very easy.
Well done girls 🙂 Did you try the challenges as well?
Dear Miss,
I have all my maths done including the challenges. It was easy.
I made up a problem.
I bought 3 items for my holiday.
I bought sandals and a book.
The total money I spent is £20.
What is the third item I bought?
Brilliant work Nadine 🙂
I love your word problem, well done for making one with two steps.
Who can solve it?
Maths challenges all done Miss.
Well done Finley! Good job 🙂
Hi ? Miss,
I have done ✅ my maths no problem ? and it was fun .
I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Dear Miss Carruthers , I did worksheet 7 and 8 and the challenge . I will do spellings after lunch ?.
Brilliant work – you’ve worked hard this morning! Enjoy your lunch 🙂
Yes.
Really well done 🙂
Sid could have bought glasses and flip flops or suitcase and towel. But actually he bought suitcase and towel.
Well worked out 🙂
Hi Miss, we finished the worksheet, the BBC Bitesize lesson and the challenges.
We made up another challenge: Sid had £60. He then bought all five items for his trip. He decided to return one item and was left with £18. What item did he return?
Oh good question! I wonder if someone else can solve it…
Good afternoon Miss Carruthers,
we finished our worksheet on math no problem and it was easy. We watched the Bitesize video and we did one twinkl worksheet ( compare money). The challenge 1 is :
Sunglasses ? and flip flop = £ 3 + £ 12 = £15
or towel and suitcase =£ 9 + £18 = £27
Second challenge:
Towel and suitcase because £27>£15.
We made up a problem: Emilia saves £3 on Tuesday, 95p on Wednesday and £1 on Friday. Isabella saves 60p on Tuesday, £2.10 on Wednesday and 70p on Friday. Who saves more money? Use or =
I’m impressed that you are using your symbols in your answers and your question. Let’s see who can solve it!
miss I found my math difficult but I did it by myself because ,my mum was on a call.
Well done Layla! It is good to try to be independent 🙂 Do you need any help?
Hello Miss
I have finished all my work and I am going to do my mathletics.
Well done Marisa 🙂
I did my worksheet and the Bitesize.
Excellent work Jack!
I did half of my work
Did you stop because it was tricky? Let me know if you want some help 🙂
I completed my worksheet.
Well done Rafael 🙂
Dear Miss Carruthers, I’ve completed my maths worksheet and the BBC bitesize challenge questions. I found it OK.
Challenge 1: The 2 items Sid bought are the flip flops for £12 and sunglasses for £3. As one item is £9 more than the other, the difference between 12 and 9 is 3.
£12 – £9 = £3
Challenge 2: The 2 items Sid bought are the towel for £9 and suitcase for £18. As one item is £9 more than the other, and Sid spent over £15, the difference between 18 and 9 is 9.
£18 – £9 = £9
Question: Sid bought 2 items for holiday. One item costs £2 more than the other. What 2 items did Sid buy?
Well done for explaining your answers so well 🙂 I like how you have written a question in the same style as mine!
Dear Miss Carruthers,
All done and it was ok.
Well done Marie! It was lovely to bump into you yesterday 🙂
I have finished
Well done Joshua 🙂
