There are so many wonderful pieces of music to listen to and each one of us will like different ones more than others.
Click here to get onto the BBC ten pieces website. It has around 40 pieces of music, each with an interesting introduction and then a full performance.
You don’t have to listen to all 40 of them, but listen to a couple and then tell us which one is your favourite and why? Do you like the instruments they use? Or is there a tune you like? Do you recognise the names of any of the composers?
Good morning Year 2. I can’t wait to hear about what music you’ve enjoyed listening to.
My two favourite songs were ‘Requiem’ by Giuseppe Verdi, and Doctor Who theme (arranged by Delia Derbyshire). I like them because they’re really cool and dramatic.
Good morning,
I listened to 1) The little Train of the Caipira and to 2) Bach‘s organ music with Wayne Marshall.
I preferred the haunted music (the organ music), because of the nice tune. I liked the sound of the organ.
Regards,
Sophia
Hi, I much prefer music with words and singing but I liked the Vivaldi Four Seasons.
Dear Miss Carruthers,
My favourites were George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Ravi Shankar’s Symphony. I liked Vivaldi’s Four Season’s too.
I liked the Rhapsody in Blue because all the instruments sounded nice together. I liked Ravi Shankar’s Symphony because my godmother has a sarangi which is like a sitar and the sitar sounds lovely. I liked the Four Seasons because the girl playing the violin sounded beautiful.
I like Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin. It is very bluesy and jazzy. I like jazz music a lot. It makes me feel like I am in New York a century ago when they were building lots of skyscrapers and it was really exciting. I like the clarinet (my grandpa is a clarinetist) and I would like to play the piano solo one day when I am grown up.
I also like Per Gynt by Edward Grieg. It makes me feel like I am in a cave hiding from funny looking monsters.
My favourite piece is the full body percussion performance of Anna Meredith’s Connect It. I liked this one the best because they used their bodies to make the music instead of instruments. It looked like good exercise too!
I listened to Peer Gynt, it made me scared. It gets louder and quicker as more and more trolls are running and stomping their feet. The drums are the troll king gets closer.
My favourite is the Hungarian Dance No. 5 because the tune sounds mysterious. It goes quiet and then gets louder and louder. I like the sound of the flute, violin and drum. The music makes me feel like I am moving and running wild.
My favorite is Chevalier de saint- Gorges symphony No: 1 because the music is nice to listen and it feels like I want to dance along.
Wonderful comments year 2! I hope you are all well.
I really enjoyed listening to Carl Orff’s ‘O fortuna’- it’s really dramatic and exciting. And also Bizet’s Carmen- some lovely melodies there (the school orchestra started learning that about a month or so ago). If you keep practising Kristian, I’m sure you’ll be able to learn Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue when you’re older.
Thank you Mr. Rees. I shall enjoy listening to all the pieces with the children. I think I will learn a lot about different composers too
1. Winter the four seasons, I like the song because the instrument is a violin and it sounds beautiful.
1. Earth because it is about the Earth.
Dear Miss Carruthers,
I enjoyed listening to George Gershwin’s rhapsody because of its engaging melody. It felt like the music was telling an exciting story.
