Well done for all of your hard work in Maths yesterday.
Our book of the week is ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. All of our Maths this week will be linked to the book. Read ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ book if you have it or listen to the author reading it here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nD_uIFHpscw
Can you count all of the food that the hungry caterpillar ate in one week? How much did he eat?
Now, try this:
Can you draw your fantasy picnic and use your number cards to copy the numbers? For example, you could draw 5 ice creams, find the 5 number card and copy the number.
I am looking forward to hearing about and seeing your Maths work today.
Love from Miss Siswick. (I will be teaching at school so I will not be able to respond until later today.)
It would really help me if you could upload photos straight to the media file (instructions are here: sharing photos and files) as they get to me more quickly and easily as they don’t have to go via the office and my e-mail. Please can either your child’s name or face (but not both) be visible on any photos. Many thanks.
The Hungry Caterpillar ate 25 pieces of food over the week – does the leaf on Sunday count? :))
Grace drew her picnic, wrote the numbers and found her number cards.
1 slice of watermelon, 2 tomatoes, 3 apples, 4 lollipops, 5 bananas, 6 baked potatoes, 7 sausages, 8 carrots – opps – realise we forgot something with 9 and 10 ice creams!
James was finding it very hard to fathom counting the individual fruits. He counted each day as an extra fruit. When I told him to count the ‘munch holes’, he counted 25 and 5 extra to 30. We will send the picture when completed.
We listened to the story again Today, Caspian counted the food the hungry caterpillar ate in one week total of 25.
Caspian did the counting by him self as he is able to count comfortably to 29 .
Caspian said he would like to take 2 packs of blueberries and two ice creams to his picnic.
He made his own drawing and wrote number 4.
Good morning Miss Siswick,
Alexander counted all the food the caterpillar ate and the answer is 25.
We drew a fantasy picnic and he had 5 apples, 6 oranges, 2 lollipops and 7 biscuits. He counted the numbers correctly, picked the number cards and copied the numbers.
Ania counted and said that he ate 25 pieces of food.
Ania drew 1 apple, 2 pieces of watermelon, 4 lollipops and oranges, 5 strawberries, 6 plums. Ania found the numbers on the card and copie them.
I counted 25 things (I counted to 15 without problems and needed help after 15). „The caterpillar ate a lot and then he had Bauchweh. And then he ate a leaf and he was better again“.
The poor caterpillar! Great counting, Nicolas. Keep practicing counting groups of objects up to 20-it is easier when you count objects that you can move.
Aoife counted all the caterpillar’s food and then told me that for her picnic, she would like:
5 ice creams;
1 lollipop;
9 strawberries;
2 cupcakes;
10 cheese and cucumber sandwiches;
3 satsumas; and
4 pears.
Joseph & Sophia counted all the foods eaten by the Caterpillar, and named each one too. Sophia mentioned that the caterpillar is too small to eat all this food! Joseph and Sophia would like to take the following foods for their picnic:
