We enjoyed this story (read by Miss Knowler). There were ten seeds. With the help of 10 stones we looked how many seeds were left on each page after they were either eaten (ant, pigeon, mouse, slug, mole) or destroyed by an animal or object (cat, ball, puppy, green flies). Nicolas enjoyed that activity.

The boy plants ten seeds and then the and takes one away. The pigeon is picking a seed away. A mouse is getting one. The slug eats one shoot. Six shoots left. One mole eats another one.
A cat walks over one of the seedlings and it dies. The seedlings grow. They become plants. A ball hits it down. Three plants left. When another one is gone there is two and then when another one is gone there is only one left. The plant is a sunflower. It gives ten seeds before it dies.
Thank you Mrs Knowler for reading the story.
I do smash plants as well with my ball. One plant less for the garden!
Hello Miss Knowler. Loved the story, loved the cat and the teeny tiny dog. We planted 4 seeds yesterday and they didnt grow.
I’m glad you enjoyed the story, Leopold and Adelaide. Can you talk about how many were left on any of the pages?
Good morning Miss Knowler and thank you for reading this story.
My plant from nursery is big now!
I’m glad your beanplant is growing, Rose. If you send a photo, I can post it on our bean diary page.

Well done, Nicolas. It was a great idea to use objects to explore ‘one less’.
I’m glad you both enjoyed listening to the story. You would think the seeds wouldn’t grow with all those things happening to them. First 10, then 9…….

“That was MRS Knowler! A ball killed one. It growed to a beanstalk at the end.”
Perhaps we will try asking and answering questions bright and early tomorrow, the afternoon slump may have affected Philip’s enthusiasm.
Well done, Philip.

Brilliant counting backwards from you guys. It really is a good story for maths and growing. I loved reading it to you. More to come.
Hello Mrs Knowler!!!
There was one less seed on each page plus one other item, animal or person.
I knocked my beanstalk over with a ball too, luckily it is ok.
Well done, Sam. Great use of ‘less’ and ‘plus’. I’m glad your beanstalk is ok!
5 greenfly!
