Good Morning, Nursery.

Today we are going to add two groups of objects together.

Today’s task:   Find a group of about 10 mixed objects such as cuddly toys and action figures. Then find your own  way to sort them into groups.  One group could have all of the animals and the other group all of the people, for example.  Once you have sorted them out, count how many are in each group.

Then choose two groups to add together.

Can you guess how many there will be all together?

Count all of the objects in the two groups and then say how many there are all together.

Talk about what you found out and record the answer by showing it on your fingers, drawing dots or writing the number.

I am looking forward to hearing all about it.

Love from Miss Siswick.

  1. Good morning Miss Siswick,

We chose a group including Monster Machine cars and Paw Patrol dogs. Nicolas divided the pile correctly into a group of cars and a group of dogs. He counted correctly:- 6 cars in one group, 6 dogs in the other group and 12 objects all together. We have to practise drawing the numbers later though (Nicolas does not want to do it.as he is in playing mood).

    Greetings from Nicolas

  2. I grabbed a handful of cutlery from
The draw, James separated them into piles of

    2 knives
    3 forks
    4 spoons

The pile of knives and spoons together equals 6.
The pile of knives and forks combined equals 5, and altogether there are 9 pieces!

  3. Hello,

Adelaide chose 3 balls, 1 image and 6 magnets. She put them in groups (actually broke down the magnets by colour: 4 pink ones and 2 red ones) She then put the magnets back together, counted 6, then added the balls and image and counted 4 and then 10 when put everything altogether. Writing needs practice but she wasn’t in the mood either.

  4. Miss Siswick says:

Well done; Nicolas, James and Adelaide.

You can show the answer on your fingers (as long as it is not more than 10!) or put a number card next to the groups if you are not in the writing mood.

  5. Good morning Miss Siswick, Hermine chose 5 Playmobils and 5 forks. She put them in two groups. She added them together and counted 10 of them in total. She then wrote “5” and “10” on a piece of paper

  6. Good morning,
Aoife chose 11 Octonaut figures, 4 cuddly Octonauts and 4 “gups” to make 19 – she then added 1 figure and 1 gup to make 21 in total. She struggled with writing a 2 without following dots but could write the 1 (although starts at the bottom rather than the top) so we will keep practicing!
    Thanks

  7. Good morning, Grace found far too many toys to begin with so we agreed she’d take some away. In the end she made two groups; one was with all her toys were pink or had pink in them and then the other group had more blue in them. She had 5 for the pink group and 4 for the blue group. We added the groups together which Grace counted. She understood she had 9 altogether. She wrote a good 4, a strange 5 and 9 for her total so we will practice number writing! :))

  8. Eloisa chose to do three groups.

First, she added 5 dragons, 4 hatchimals and 1 MojiPop. The sum was 10.

Second, she added 2 dragons, 1 hatching and 3 MojiPop. The result was 6.

  9. Miss Siswick says:

Well done; Hermine, Aoife, Grace and Eloisa.

  10. Good morning
    Esme found three groups.
    -Three rabbits
    -Three cans
    -Four pens
    10 total

  11. Miss Siswick says:

    Well done, Esme.
Can you try to add two of the groups together?

  12. Mrs Rekkas says:

Good morning nursery, what a lovely counting.

  13. Good morning Miss Siswick,

Alexander made two groups. One with cuddly toys and the other with Peppa Pig characters. Alexander counted the objects correctly as 10 in total and showed the number on his fingers.
We split the 10 objects into 2 groups of 5 each and he was able to count them correctly. I took away some toys and he was able to correctly count what was left as 8, 6 and 3. He traced the dots to show number 10 on a piece of paper.

  14. Good Morning,
Caspian chose 10 toys out of his favourite toys. Five animals and five cars. He separated them into two groups and counted each group separately and added the total by him self .
When I asked him what was the total of the two groups he replied TEN.

Caspian practiced writing five and ten .

  15. This morning we played with little dogs.
    One plus one makes 2
Two plus one makes 3 (counting)
Two plus two makes « a lot of them » then counting 4!

  16. Miss Siswick says:

Well done; Alexander, Caspian and Leopold.

  17. Ania chose four horses, six unicorns. She put them in two groups. She counted each separately and counted on her fingers and knew that there were 10 of them together.

  18. Miss Siswick says:

    Well done, Ania.

  19. Esme did it again!
    So she found two groups
    Hard toys – Soft toys
She wanted to divided in three or four groups again, but when she realised the difference between them, she did it well

  20. Anna picked four blocks and six pens. She counted them separately and then added them together. She told me it was ten in total

  21. Hello Nursery,

Fiadh picked 7 toys then decided she wanted each toy to have a matching pair so she had 14 in total.

    2 baby lol dolls
    2 mummy lol dolls
    2 beanie boos
    2 unicorns
    2 purses
    2 cars
    2 small emojis

She counted 2 toys in each group. Then counted them all correctly from 1-14.

  22. Miss Siswick says:

Well done; Esme, Anna and Fiadh.

  23. Mrs Knowler says:

What a varied range of different groups you have found! Some super adding and recording too. Well done.

  24. Nancy Bear says:

Philip’s teacher auntie bought us some numicon and they are helping Philip to represent numbers.

  25. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Philip. I love numicon too. We have lots of it at school.

  26. Hello!
