Good Morning, Nursery.

Well done for working so hard with your numbers and counting this week.

Today, we are going to do something a bit different.

Can you investigate how much water different containers can hold?
It might be best to do this over the sink and put the water in the sink first. Hopefully this will be less messy and also save on water!

Choose some different containers and have fun in the sink!

Can you pour water from one container to another?

Did some of the water spill out?

Was there enough water to fill the container?

How much water is in the container now?

Here are some words to help you talk about how much water there is:

Here are two different recipes for making porridge for the three bears that you can to practice measuring using cups. Maybe you would like to try them out today or another day: Goldilocks-porridge-sheet (1)

I am looking forward to hearing all about your Maths today.

Love from Miss Siswick.

PRINTABLE VERSION:N Maths Thursday

It would really help me if you could upload photos  straight to the media file (instructions are here: sharing photos and files) as they get to me more quickly and easily as they don’t have to go via the office and my e-mail. Please can either your child’s name or face (but not both) be visible on any photos. Many thanks.

  8. Sam loved making a mess with the water. He filled the smaller containers and poured them all in to the large bowl, which was still not full, but nearly full. He refilled the small containers poured more in to the large bowl until it was full up, the small containers were empty and the medium container was nearly empty.

Sam also likes to play “sink and float” to guess which items sink and which items float in the big bowl of water.
