Good Morning, Nursery!

Before the holiday, we were learning these sounds. Practice doing the actions and saying the sounds.

You can hear the sounds here: https://www.jollylearning.co.uk/resource-bank-old/learn-the-letter-sounds/

Ask an adult to find one object in your home for each of the letter sounds s, a, t, i, p  and n and to write the letters  s, a, t, i, p  and n on separate pieces of paper.

Today’s task: Can you sort the objects by their beginning sound? Don’t worry if you don’t recognise the written letters yet-the focus is on hearing and saying the beginning sounds in the words.

I am looking forward to hearing about your phonics today.

Love from Miss Siswick.

P.S. Don’t forget to go to the Nursery Reading blog to tell us all about the books you’ve been enjoying.

So good to have our morning’s tasks!
    Esme found
    S: spoon
    A: Apple
    T: table
    N: necklace
    P: pig
I: she could not match “ice pack” with I letter (she thought it belonged to A group)

  6. Miss Siswick says:

Good morning, Esme. Well done for your phonics.

Ice pack doesn’t begin with an ‘i’ sound which might have confused you. The sound that you hear at the beginning of ice pack is ‘igh’ as in high. Listen to the sounds again by copying and pasting the link at the top and see if you can find an object beginning with the ‘i’ sound.

  7. Mrs Rekkas says:

Good morning nursery! enjoy the phonics today.

Leopold did some good grouping he still needs help though to recognise the first sound.

  22. Dear Miss Siswick,

I chose an apple for “a”, ink for “i”, a tree and tomato for “t”, nuts for “n”, pig for “p” and Sophia for “s”. Nicolas had no difficulties putting the objects to the correct letter. He identified the letters all with no help.

Greetings from Nicolas and his mummy

  23. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Nicolas. You can catch the beginning sounds of the words to the written letters.

  24. Philip really enjoyed getting back to his phonics work. And enthusiastically set off about our home to collect his items. When he found one tricky, he looked in his alphabet book for inspiration.

  25. Miss Siswick says:

Great idea, Philip. I think ‘i’ Is the trickiest one to find. We don’t have many igloos or bottles of ink in our homes!
