Good Morning, Nursery.
Over the last few weeks, we have been learning to hear and say lots of different sounds at the beginning of words.
Can you remember the action that goes with each of these sounds?
Today, I would like you to check which ones you can hear and say.
Ask a grown up to choose from these pictures, one at a time, and say the word without telling you the beginning sound.
Can you say the sound that each word begins with?
Now try the same with these pictures:
If you are finding this very easy, your grown up could just point at the picture without saying the word and see if you can say the beginning sound. Maybe, you could also point at or write the written letter that the word begins with.
I am looking forward to hearing how you all got on.
Love from Miss Siswick.
PRINTABLE VERSION:N Phonics Fri
Good morning Miss Siswick,
Nicolas found that difficult. He said pig and made the sound for pig instead of the sound p. Same for crocodile. ? First, we practised the sounds again with the YouTube video. Then he identified the picture and I showed him the corresponding letter so we practised the sound.
Greetings from Nicolas
Well done, Nicolas. Keep trying to hear and say the beginning sounds in the words.
Good morning,
Adelaide found most of the words and said the first letters. Shedid some writing (see photos) – some letters good, others less so.
Well done, Adelaide. Great hearing and saying of the beginning sounds. Lovely writing too.
Good morning nursery, enjoy your phonics!
Sam managed to give all but a few of the sounds all by himself, Mummy was very impressed!
Well done, Sam. Great hearing and saying of the beginning sounds.
Esmeralda said every word and their first letters.
After she wrote down on her board every letter
She enjoyed doing this task
Greetings
Well done, Esme. Great hearing and saying and great writing as well.
James got a few sounds that he understands/now know: e for eggs, h for house, k for kite. He sings the song each time I ask for the sound. I’m struggling to get the understanding of sound into his head. Help.
Good try, James. Don’t worry-it will come with practice.
We read 80% of Adelaide’s letters on her board though which I was impressed with. Something must be going in.
Well done, James.
Hermine managed to give all the sounds all by herself together with the rest of the words. She really enjoyed this task
Well done, Hermine. Great hearing and saying of the beginning sounds.
Caspian did all the the words and the sounds by him self except one word (Castanet) he recognised the sound but not the word.
He did it in very confident performance .
Well done, Caspian. Great hearing and saying of the beginning sounds.
Fiadh got most of the sounds correct and enjoyed the task.
Well done, Fiadh. I am glad that you enjoyed it.
Hello Miss Siswick
Ania found most of the words but not all of them could say the first letters. She also wrote the letters. Later watching the songs we will practice.
Well done, Ania. The songs are a great way of practicing the sounds and the actions.
Alexander enjoyed the activities. He was able to say the words and beginning sounds. He likes his phonics.
I am glad that you like phonics, Alexander. Great hearing and saying of the beginning sounds.
Aoife enjoyed doing the phonics and making the letter sounds from the pictures. She has also been practicing writing her letters.
Well done, Aoife . I am pleased to hear that you are practicing your writing as well.
Dear Miss Siswick,
Anna was able to say the word and sound for most words. We practiced the ones she couldn’t do.

Well done, Anna. Keep practicing and it will get easier.
