This week we began our new topic on Ancient Egypt! What do you already know about life in Ancient Egypt? What would you like to find out?
My favourite fact about Egypt:
The Pyramid of Khufu at Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid. This incredible structure weighs as much as 16 Empire State buildings!
One other fact I know is that people settled in Ancient Egypt in 5500bc.
I love writing in hieroglyphics.
I have a pharaoh fact:
The first known board game ‘Senet’ is said to have originated in ancient Egypt.
Wow! These are great facts Charles, Jeanne and Haleema. I am looking forward to learning more about Ancient Egypt with you all!
I now know that there are two types of writing- Hieroglyphics and Hyratic.
Today I learned that myths are fake stories and I read one about Egypt.
The Great Sphinx of Giza was built around 2500 BC.
One of my favourite facts is about a mummy called Khnumhotep who was an estate overseer and who lived around 1940-1760 BC.
His is one of the earliest coffins, dating to the Middle Kingdom (c.2055-1795 BC).Up until this period, coffins had typically been rectangular in shape!
Egyptians believed the scarab beetle was sacred and represented eternal life. They thought the beetle pushing a ball of dung represented the beetle pushing the sun across the sky. The beetle is often seen in hierogyphics, sometimes with wings and pushing the sun.
PHARAOH FACT
The great pyramid is believed to be made up of 100,000 giant stones, from 1 to 20 tons in weight!
Tutankhamun is the best known pharaoh.
I tried to read in hieroglyphics but I did not remember all of them!
The river Nile is 6,853 km and it is the longest river in Africa.
Tutankhamun became a pharaoh at the age of 9.
Tutankhamuns tomb was discovered in 1922.
Pyramids were built when the river was flooded!
I have learnt after reading all your facts! I am excited to learn more this week!
Miss Gorick
My favourite pyramid is the Sphinx because his body is an animal body and his face is a face of a pharaoh. The Sphinx was built to guard important areas such as tombs for famous people and as temples. The Sphinx is one of the largest and oldest statues in the world! The Sphinx is a mythological creature with the body of a lion and a head of a pearson.
I am interested in the old Egyptian clothes and want to learn more about them.
My favourite fact is:
Alone with a golden burial mask, King Tut’s sandals were also found in the tomb; these had paintings of his enemies-so everywhere the king went, he trampled all over his foes.
Queen Nefertiti is in King Tut’s tomb.
I know that …
Tutankhmuns tomb was discoverd in 1922.
It took 20 years to build the pyramid of Giza. It is one of the 7 wonders of the world and it’s 139 meters tall.
When I was small like I went to Egypt with my family.
I even saw the great pyramid of Giza, the Sphinx and my favourite most of all Tutankhamun’s mummy and all the gold he had in his tomb!
But now I can’t remember anything because I was really young!
My favourite pyramid is the Great Pyramid of Giza. I also really like the Sphinx and i also really like the River Nile. Howard Carter discovered king tut’s tumb. The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the 7 wonders in the world. Thank you very much for teaching us this year Miss Gorick, I have learnt a lot.
