Good morning, Year 5
How are you?
I have missed you all so much and I really hope you have been keeping happy and healthy.
Happy Birthday to the following children who have had their birthday since school closed:
Sara (30th March – the same day as mine!)
Ayako (1st April)
Marco (9th April)
Elsa (15th April)
Theo (16th April)
Lavinia (27th April)
Erin and Regan (29th April – if we were in class I am sure we would be debating who came first!)
I hope you had lovely birthdays with your families!
Upcoming birthdays in May: Claudia (6th May), Gabriella (21st May) and Elena (22nd May). Wishing you three girls a great day! My mum’s birthday is also in May (9th) and I am really sad that I can’t spend it with her due to the government guidelines but I am grateful I will be able to see her on FaceTime!
During these unprecedented times, it is really important to look after our mind and body so that we may adapt to the situation around us.
Sometimes I feel worried and have a little trouble sleeping but I always feel better after I talk to somebody. Do you worry sometimes? It’s okay to feel worried, this is a normal emotion during these times of uncertainty. We are all missing our friends and relatives but this will pass soon and we are all in it together! It’s really important that you share these feelings either with your family or with us! Don’t forget there is a Worry Box where your worries can be posted anonymously (without your name): Worry Box.
And don’t forget… this will be over! It is temporary and things will go back to normal again π
One great thing I have started doing after I finish working from home is going out for a daily run. I am quite lucky to live close to a very big park and the natural surroundings really help me to feel better and calmer. Here is a photo of my ‘running track’:
Isn’t it stunning? Please click to enlarge. I especially love the pink skies I often see on my evening runs.
I have been trying to improve my baking skills too. I have had a few disasters (!) but I am really proud of how much I improve each time. My favourite thing to make is Brazilian ‘cheese’ bread balls which actually don’t have cheese in them but taste like they do! I have written the recipe for you here: Brazilian Cheese Bread Recipe
Please let me know if you try it!
I have also been reading and being ‘silly’ with my three year old son. Laughing always makes me feel better!
Here is a funny photo of us with ‘beards’ that we created on the iPad:
We don’t really have beards of course but we laughed so much taking silly photos and making silly videos. If this photo made you laugh – let me know in the comments! I know you enjoyed it when I shared funny photos with you in class. I hope you’ve been really silly at home and having lots of laughs!
Going to bed early, drinking lots of water (you all know how much I love drinking water!), eating healthy and saying a prayer each night has really helped me to feel better in my mind, body and spirit. Whenever I feel worried, I try to go to bed really early and I always feel better in the morning.
What have you been doing to feel better during this time?
Please share with us in the comments.
Do you have a new game you can suggest or a recipe we could try?
Do you have any tips for making worries go away?
You could even send in photos using the Homework Uploader.
During this time I’ve been remaining calm, trying not to worry about what is going on around the world. We have been sticking with a routine at home, homework first, play later. I’ve been helping with the cooking at home too. I’ve recently made lemon cake which was really nice! I even learnt how make scrambled eggs! I’ve had so much fun. Everyday I call my nanny to check that she is okay. My mum orders food to my house, then delivers it to my nanny’s house so that she doesn’t have to go out. I can’t wait to see her when all of this is over.
Hello Olivia! I am so pleased you are remaining calm and enjoying lots of lovely activities. Please could you share the lemon cake recipe? I would love to try it – I love lemons! Miss Carruthers loves lemon cakes too so I will share it with her also π
It’s very kind of you and your family to take care of your grandma at this time. I also miss my relatives and can’t wait to see them too.
Hello Mrs Avdiu I have bin doing lots of things to keep me entertained.
I have bin doing some recipes with my mum and we even learnt who to make bread from scratch. I have also gone to the park with my bike or with my dog. Three times a week we play a family game together and everyday after my homework I talk with my grandma and my friends after. I like to see it like coronavirus isn’t all bad because I know it is annoying to stay at home all the time but at least you can send more time with your family and its good for the environment also it is not just one country this is happening to everybody.
Hi Claudia, did you mean ‘been’ instead of ‘bin’? π
I am so pleased to read all the lovely activities you have been doing. I am impressed you now know how to make bread from scratch! Could you share the recipe with me so I can try it at home too? I have also been doing lots of baking π
Thank you for sharing your positive outlook on the situation – it really is admirable to know you think this way at such a young age. I am going to remember your words every time I start to worry! We are definitely all in this together and it will pass soon.
Hi Everyone,
During these unprecedented times, I have been working most of the day but apart from that, I play in my garden or even work there if it is hot enough! Sometimes, we all go outside to the park to play volleyball( whole family ) or football( me and my dad ) to get some exercise. I always call my grandma because she is alone in Milan and she’s been stuck there for about three months or more. I am now getting really bored but I can still chat with lots of my friends on Skype which means that we can text, call and face time each other( it isn’t that bad at all )!
Please let me know if anyone tries my ‘cheese bread’ recipe!
I love Brazilian cheese balls – I use to eat them all of the time. I didn’t realise that they don’t actually contain any cheese. ?
Hi everyone,
During the lockdown I have been going out to the park with my mum, sometimes my dad and I have done quite a lot of work! I sometimes play games with my friends online and chat with them using Skype, Zoom and FaceTime. I am also reading lots of books at home including: I am Malala, Holes, A Wrinkle in Time, Swallows and Amazons, Beyond the Sky and Wind in the Willows. I am also halfway through re-reading the Harry Potter series. Sometimes I do work with Iggy and we work through the blogs and the writing task together.
Hi Seb,
This sounds fantastic. You are making a great use of this time! I am so pleased that you have found a way to engage in the blogs with your friend Iggy π Wow, those books are amazing and I am really pleased to see you’ve been reading lots.
Hi Mrs Avdiu I have been doing a lot of things during lockdown.
I have been watching television and I have also been playing on my iPad. But I usually play games with my imagination and sports like dodgeball, football and volleyball in my garden. Every Tuesday and Wednesday me and Seb do work together, it is very fun and I would definitely recommend it. I hope you’re all well and not bored. After school me, Seb and Marco also play Roblox together. I hope you’re all well And not bored.
~Iggy
Hi Iggy! I am so happy to see that you have been staying in contact with your lovely friends from school. I am glad you have been able to continue to play football because I know how much you love it! π
Hello everyone The coronavirus lockdown isnβt that bad for me because after my Home school my dad picks me up and we play frisbee in the park then when I get home I have a chat with my friends and play with my kitten Coco.I also have a garden to play in and even though I miss all of my teachers and my friends, our lockdown isnβt so bad after all ?
I’m so glad to know you are happy and enjoying this time π It is very admirable to see such a positive outlook from a young girl like yourself and it is inspiring me to look for the positives every day π
Hello Everyone ! ?
I hope you have all had an amazing ? day and an amazing week. So far for todayβs task I am going to be explaining what I do to make me feel better during this very hard time.
Some times I do a bit of Yoga to calm myself down if I am feeling stressed ? or annoyed ?. Everyday at 7:30 I get up from my bed, make my bed and brush my teeth and then I do the Joe Wicks exercises with my family (even my baby sister) after the workout ?οΈββοΈ I feel much better than when I woke up. I would prefer going back to school and seeing all my friends but I know that is not possible at the moment so sometimes I like to think that all this will turn out alright and it is only temporary.
I hope you are all faster and well ???
~Elena ?
Thank you for sharing what you do to stay positive. Yes, exercise is a great way to boost your mood! It always makes me feel better too. I think I am going to try some yoga this week, thanks for recommending it π
Hi everyone,
During these difficult circumstances inside I have been going out at 7 am for a run in Regent’s Park to get fresh air. This also makes me feel restful and calm during the day that follows ahead of me. I try to call my nanny everyday as she only has her husband and has not been out. We also do lots of food shopping for other elderly people who live in my block. (A man in the basement, my nanny and my grandad and my nanny’s neighbour as she broke her leg two weeks ago!) I have also been cooking a lot on the weekend! I have baked several delicious cakes including lemon drizzle cake for my birthday, banana bread and another lemon cake. (As you can see I love lemons!) I have got a link for my cakes at the bottom. I have been working until later after lunch and then I can talk to friends using online apps. By the way, Mrs Avdiu’s photo made me laugh!
Hope to see you all soon!

Hello dear Regan!
Thank you so much for sharing those recipes. I will definitely be trying the banana bread one this week and then the others next time. I will show you photos when we get back to school π I think going for a run first thing in the morning sounds like a brilliant idea. Have you been able to play football?
Hello everyone,
First of all, I hope you are all well!
π
During this period, I have been baking some cakes (mostly with fruits such as strawberries or kiwis). I will share a picture of the Kiwi Cheesecake I baked a few days ago so you can see it!
I spend a lot of time on “drawing tutorials” in order to learn how to draw faces, girls, animals etc.
I also like to lie down on my bed and read books. I try to read one English book and then one French book! I also read some comics in French. We call these ‘BD’. ‘Adele’ and ‘Tom Tom et Nana’ really made me laugh!
My mum lent me an old phone in order to Facetime my friends, my grand-parents and my cousins. I love these moments because I can share many things with the people I love!
I also do some gardening with my mum and I have built a tree house with one of my brothers. It is great! We can sit in it and we have a wonderful view of the garden! The best thing about the tree house is that I can see the sea from the top!
My two brothers had their birthday during this period. Then, I helped my parents to organise their birthday party.
Well, as you can see I have been doing lots of fun things!
Wow! This sounds really fun and I am so glad you are happy and well. Your tree house sounds amazing. Can you send us a photo?
P.S.: I have edited the punctuation and grammar in your writing so you might notice it looks a little different π
Hi all
I have been going on runs very early in the morning. I have also done some baking. We have been writing letters to lots of people we know that live on their own. One of our friends in our block had a baby girl and we saw her (from a distance) when she was only 1 day old. This is the youngest baby I have ever seen. I’ve also done lots of lego.
Aw, that sounds wonderful! I am so pleased to know that you are considering others during this time. How kind of you π
Good Afternoon everyone.
Every morning when I wake up I do a five minute abs workout and after that I do some stretches to make me feel relaxed and calm. At 9 am I do PE with Joe Wicks with my mum. At lunchtime I do a hiit session which my brother and I designed, it is made up of all Joeβs hardest exercises. Finally, at 4:30, I do 45 minutes of football before relaxing until dinner.
The lockdown isnβt too hard for me because I live right next to a park so I can go there whenever I want. I have also helped my dad and my sister bake on the weekend. Aoife has nicknamed her and our dad the sticky guys!
I hope you all have a good afternoon!
I am so pleased to know that you are playing football! The workouts sound brilliant – they definitely make me feel better too.
Yes, we are very lucky to have such wonderful parks in our city. It helps me feel better seeing all the greenery. Have a wonderful afternoon, Theo!
During this time I have been playing cards after supper with my family we usually play three rounds of rummikub( with cards) or knock out whist .
Thanks for wishing me a happy birthday, on my birthday me and my Mummy made a birthday cake ,little tarts and cupcakes.
Also me, my Daddy and my sister Eva have been playing cricket and ping-pong in the park sometimes.
I have added a photo of Claudia’s new hamster in the gallery above the comments. Isn’t he adorable?! Claudia, what a lovely birthday present. Enjoy your birthday tomorrow!
Hello everyone.
I hope you’re okay during this difficult time but hopefully you’re having lots of fun. I have been doing lots of stuff to keep me busy.
Ever since the lockdown, me and my family started doing a lot more baking. The first thing we baked was plain white bread and it was so tasty so we continued to make it a couple more times. Next my dad tried to make a native Filipino bread called pandesal. I had some of it for breakfast and it was also very yummy too. It was also the first time I ate it so first impressions was very good although it’s kind of sweeter than the bread here. A few days later me and my dad decided to make chocolate brownies! I loved it! It wasnβt that hard to do at all. Lastly, (this is my favourite one) I made red velvet cupcakes! This one was a trial and error but it still tasted delicious. Cravings satisfied!
I bought UNO cards and me and my dad always plays with it in my garden. On hot days, we always have BBQβs and my mum, dad and I would play lots of different games like tag.
Thank you for reading my work. Hopefully this all stops and we can get to see each other again.?
Wow! You must share the recipes with us. The Filipino bread sounds delicious. Baking also makes me feel great π
I’m so happy to know you are enjoying lots of precious time with your family.
