Salvador Dali was a Spanish surrealist artist. He was born on the 11 th may1904 in figueres, Spain and died on the 23 rd of January 2986

( I’m only going to do the one about his quotes since the other ones a too long)

    Quotes

‘have no fear of perfection.you will never reach it’ and ‘intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings’ are two of my favourite quotes from dalì. Writing task 6
    Salvador Dali
    Who was Salvador Dali ?
Salvador Dali was born the 11th may 1904 in figeres, spain and was a surrealist painter as well as impressionist, abstract artist…He is known for his bizarre images he paints in his work especially melting clocks.

    Early life
Salvador Dali was born the 11th may 1904 in figeres, spain not far from the French border to a strict father who wanted him to be disciplined and a mother who encouraged him to practice his art.His dad Salvador Dali y a lawyer and his mother was Felipa Domenech
    Ferres.

It is said that Dali was an intelligent child but prone to anger against his parent teachers and schoolmates which led them to be cruel back. The older Dali not happy at all by Dali’s behavior would punish him badly and they would compete for Felipa’s attention.

Dali had an older brother born and died 9 moths before Dali was born and at th age of 5 he would visit his grave. His mother told him he was the reincarnation of his older brother since they looked very a like.

Dali also had a younger sister Ana Maria and when they went on holiday she would watch him draw already sophisticated drawings. This is when his parents realized his talent Andy decided to build him an art studio before entering art school.

Ps. This is only 2 sections of my biography. ???

  6. Miss Gorick says:

Thank you Jade, a really interesting biography!
    T) check for missing punctuation and capital letters for proper nouns

  7. I have done my research about the island, Tortuga. Here is one of my paragraphs about the origin of the name:

Tortuga history stretches from 1492 to around 1680. The origin of the name ‘Tortuga’ derives from the Spanish word for turtle. The Spaniards were the first Europeans to land in the island during the first voyage of Christopher Columbus in 1492. The island was named by Columbus himself after three ships passed the ‘Windward Passage’ that separates Cuba and Haiti. He noticed the island at sunrise and because the sharp reminded him of a turtle shell, he named it, Tortuga.

  11. Miss Gorick says:

Well done Ethan, it sounds like you’re working well! It’s a great idea to focus on one writing task a week as then you have time to plan, write and edit. I’m glad you are doing OK in this strange time. I am coping ok thank you but of course, I am missing St. Vincent’s and all of you!

  12. I have written about another famous surrealist artist.
I have chosen Pablo Ruiz Picasso.

Picasso was born on the 25th of October in Malaga, Spain and died at the age of 91 on the 8th of April 1973.
I chose this painter as I was very fascinated last year about Picasso after going to the Picasso museum last summer whilst visiting Barcelona.

  13. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Elly 🙂 It is lovely to hear from you! I would love to visit the Picasso museum, what was it like?

    T) Have a look at your last sentence, I think you could rephrase it to make it easier to read.

  14. ?(●'◡'●)paloma says:

    Good morning year 6 ,
I have done some reasech about Salvador Dalí
he was acctually French and Spanish because in that time Catalonia was French and my Dad comrs from Catalonia.
Three years ago i went to his mueseu, and it was at Figeras in Spain .

Born in Figueres, Catalonia, Dalí was a skilled artist draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his work. His painterly skills are often attributed to the influence of Renaissance masters.Dalí also met Picasso and Gaudi also some artists and they also made some paintings together . I have really loved his art in year three

  15. Miss Gorick says:

    Thanks Paloma 🙂
I am pleased that your research links to your family!

  17. This is one of my paragraphs on Picasso:
Girl before a mirror (one of Picasso’s paintings)
This is a painting by Picasso and he painted it in march 1932 . He painted it also after the time when he moved on from naturalism and had moved to surrealism (1925). I like this piece of artwork because it shows that everyone is special in their own way.It also shows that no matter how you look like, you are always that same person you always have been. Picasso has many shapes, colors and lines to build up this painting. This includes curved and straight shapes and lines. The purpose of this painting was to have varied interpretations on Picasso’s lover and her reflection.

  18. Miss Gorick says:

🙂 Great description and use of technical vocabulary.
    T) Remember proper nouns need a capital letter!

  19. I did a piece of writing about how surrealism started, and about an artist Dorothea Tanning.
My writing begins with how surrealism started. I have written…
Surrealist art all began around the 1920s, by André Breton. He was originally a psychoanalyst for WWI soldiers. He worked with dreams and subconsciousness. Soon after WWI he opened a ‘Dream Surgery’. By hiring a room and put posters all over Paris to get people to come and tell him their dreams for research. Although he did paintings of dreams, he mainly did surrealist writing. As he formed a movement which included surrealist painters, writer and sculptors.

And I found out about one of the first female surrealist painters, Dorothea Tanning. Yet she wasn’t the first surrealist painter as she lived in New York, so she started when it got worldwide.
I also wrote about her most famous painting, ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’ which she made in 1943, and a little about her.

  20. Miss Gorick says:

Well done Maryann for redrafting 🙂 In your 3rd sentence, a comma needs to be placed after the subordinate clause. Great work!

  30. This is my introduction.
    Island of Tortuga.

The Island of Tortuga is known for its history with the pirates, but now it is famous for the pale white sand and crystal blue waters.
In this information leaflet, you will find everything you need to know about this historical island.

*note* I would have wrote my whole piece if I pressed the Personal data consent. I forgot to do that and lost my whole piece so there’s the intro *note*

Hi Aryan, it is great to hear from you! I’m sorry to hear that you had problems posting you comment 🙁

  32. My Tortuga Introduction

The island of Tortuga lies off the coast of Haiti. Research leads us to believe that Pirates had lived on this island centuries ago, but what do we really know about this island?

  36. Have you ever thought of visiting a famous buccaneer location or an island with beautiful white-sand beaches or an eco-retreat? Well, this is the perfect place to visit. This leaflet will provide all the information you need.

    Tortuga Today
Although no more run by pirates, Tortuga today is still almost as unspoilt as it was in the 17th century. Due to its hot climate and beautiful beaches it is popular with tourists from across the world. Nowadays, the transport are motorcycles and there are very few cars; there are no taxies, buses or trains. There’s no electricity, only three hotels and don’t except to have a ceiling fan, air conditioning nor running water! Only three shops have a solar panel to generate power. Amazingly, the population stands at around 26000.

  37. Miss Gorick says:

Thank you Anahi! You’ve written an engaging introduction and I like your use of a question.
In your second paragraph, read the 1st sentence. The subordinate clause and main clause don’t really link which makes it sound a little confusing. Redraft the 1st sentence below.

    My paragraph:
Buccaneers was a name for pirates cruising from Caribbean havens, primarily raiding Spanish shipping and along the mexican coast. The French word boucanier is the source for the word buccaneer. The boucan is a grill used to smoke meat for eating later. This method of food preservation is native o he Arawak Indians of the Caribbean islands, who passed on this technique to men illegally camping on Spanish Hispaniola. The hunters, who lived off the boucan, became known as boucaniers.

Good morning Miss, I have done task 2. This is one of the five steps that I’ve written of my guide to hide treasure.
    Last step:
Fill in the hole with the sand that you took out. Then gently pat the spot where your treasure is and sprinkle some sand over it to make it look untouched. Then you can relax, and not worry about other pirates stealing your treasure.
