Good Morning!
Now that Easter has finished, we are now going to start our new topic in RE.
Have a look at the picture below. It has changed from the cross we saw on Good Friday. What do you think these symbols in the picture mean?
The empty cross shows us that Jesus has risen, and the flowers represent the new life that Jesus brings. Can you imagine the shock and surprise when people first discovered that Jesus had risen from the dead? I think it would have been hard to believe because it sounds impossible! Read this passage from the Gospel of Luke that tells us what happened on that first Easter Sunday morning.
Have a think or talk to your family about this story. Here are some questions to think about:
- How do you think the women were feeling?
- What was the message the men gave to the women?
- What had Jesus told them to remember? Discuss the words used.
- How do you think the eleven disciples felt when they heard the news from the women?
It would have been such amazing news that they would have had to tell everyone about it! One of the ways that we find things out today is through news articles.
I would like you to write a newspaper article to tell everyone what happened.
*You must describe what happened.
*You should try to include how different people felt.
*You could even include quotes to use the words that people used.
*Optional Challenge Questions: Can you think of why this story is so important to people today? How do Christians live their lives because of this story?
Write your answers on the blog – I can’t wait to read your newspaper articles! If you want to write it on paper, or draw any pictures to go with it, then send them to me and I’ll put them on this page for everyone to see.

JESUS RISEN FROM DEAD
Yesterday at 8:32, two women went to the temple of doom (aka. the tomb where Jesus was buried). They found tomb after tomb, empty tomb after empty tomb, until they found one that said;
JESUS
in very crumbly capitals. They found some dust (not exactly what they wanted). Then, suddenly a song mixed with a kinda hummy* sound and a whisper saying;
“The Lord Jesus is not here;
he has been raised from the dead he is alive.”
The two women turned around. They saw angels.
“Do you remember what he said to you when he was in Galilee:
That he would be crucified and three days later come back to life?” The two women didn’t really, but they also didn’t want to upset the angels. “Errrr… yeah…” the the women said.
When they got home they did lots of hip dancing.** They told Jesus’s disciples, which was very uplifting for them (and soon the whole world).
**Hip dancing is when you move your hips around in a circle.
*That was the best pun I could think of. It’s like the word mummy (not as in the parent).
Brilliant retelling of the story Rex! I’m sure they really were so happy that Jesus was alive again that they danced for joy!
This is my work:
The women came to the tomb and they saw that the stone was rolled away so they decided to go in to see if Jesus was there. They didn’t see Jesus’s body in the tomb. They were amazed and puzzled that there was no body there.
The message man gave to the women was when Jesus spoke in Galilei that he would be crucified and three days later he would be risen from the dead and alive.
Next, the women went to the 11 disciples and said: ‘Do you remember the time when Jesus said he would be risen from the dead on the 3 day?’ The disciples felt happy but also puzzled when they heard the news.
This story is important because Jesus died to forgive are sins.
Christians follow Jesus’s footsteps as he told people to always remember that he will always be with them.
Christians live their lives by being kind to each other and forgiving one another.
Well done Marie, you’ve really tried to challenge yourself with the extension at the end.
1. Worried about Jesus.
2. That Jesus was still alive.
3. Jesus told everyone his word.
4. Happy, because Jesus was alive.
Well done for discussing the story Layla. See if you can retell it as a newspaper article.
Jesus is alive!
By Marie
On Sunday morning, a group of women found the tomb of Jesus empty. The empty tomb took the women by surprise. Where was Jesus? Suddenly, two white and beautiful angels flew into the dark tomb terrifying the women. The bright angels said “the Lord Jesus is not here. He has been raised from the dead he is alive”. The overjoyed women were delighted to hear the news and went to tell the disciples the good news.
Well done for retelling the story. I like how you described the women as overjoyed – I really think they would have been!
We have some exciting news to tell you today! Let’s get on to the story.
Yesterday, on Sunday, two women went to the tomb where Jesus was laid. The stone covering the tomb was gone ! They did not find the Lord body of Jesus.
Suddenly two men in bright clothes appeared out of thin air.
They spoke peacefully and said ‘The Lord Jesus is not here. He has been raised from the dead and is alive. ‘ Then they reminded the women that Jesus had warned them that ‘he would be crucified and 3 days later rise to life’.
The women called the eleven disciples and the rest of the people to say the important message that the two men had given them.
Jesus has risen!
Brilliant Sophia! Who do you think the two men in bright clothes were?
Wow, well done Rex, Marisa and Marie! I really enjoyed reading your Newspaper articles. What a beautiful story to tell ?

The disciples were so happy when they heard the good news.
Great work Finley! The angels’ ‘Spread the Word’ message is so important to Christians everywhere today.
