Welcome back, Reception children, parents and carers.
Now that we have been home learning for a few weeks, please let me know how it’s been going.

What have you enjoyed?
What would you like to do more of?
What would you like more help with?

I look forward to hearing from you.
Love from Miss Siswick.

  1. Ruby-Mae enjoy to do pictures and writing for her homework. She would like to do more pictures and drawings. We would like to have more writing homework to help us to practise our writing.

  2. Amber enjoys doing both the English and Maths homework, plus any craft projects. She loves doing crafty projects. However, she writes some of her numbers and the odd letter backwards. Should I just get her to keep practising her number writing or is there a better methodology? Her counting is totally fine.
My only other issue is the last day of homeschooling pre-Easter and finding the Piet Mondrain software on a mac. We hand – drew instead.

  3. I enjoy numbers, reading and phonics. I need help with writing and I am trying to do more drawing and colouring in, though it’s not my favourite thing to do.

My favourite is maths and I would like to do more maths games.

  4. Good morning Miss Siswick,

And Thank you for working with us !
That’s a lot of work for you !
Madeleine and I hope you had a restful Easter break.
We had one with a nice Indoor chocolate eggs Hunt.

We have been working a little bit every day. Not always following the specific homework but making sure we are writing or counting on a daily basis while drawing letter for family or friends or playing cards with big sister.
We love the blog and try to work on it every day (when the iPad or computer is available).

  5. Hi Happy Easter Miss Siswick, I hope you had a good Easter! Over Easter, I did the Easter story in my Home Learning book. Mummy says after a tricky start with home learning, my behaviour has got better and so far today has been perfect! (Marcus comment).

Marcus especially enjoyed writing task 2, writing about your favourite story.
He would like to see more of Geraldine the Giraffe in Phonics and I love the Tricky Words and Alphabet sounds songs!
We definitely need more help with writing practice that isn’t boring as Marcus gets tired very quickly when doing writing work!
He loves the interaction with the teachers and feedback on the Blog, it’s a great motivator.

  6. Hello Miss Siswick and thank you very much for taking over (Melchior says hello with a big grin )! We hope you had a lovely Easter (considering). Melchior enjoys a little bit the maths sheets and otherwise loathes homework time, which is the low point of the day for the whole family. We cannot really participate in the blogs as we need the computers during the day for work. I hope you will bear with us and we will try to answer a blog entry over the week-end.

  7. Good afternoon Miss Siswick , Chiara and I are very happy you are taking over and we hope you are very well.
Chiara enjoys doing homework but miss a lot being at school with you and her friends. She loves doing the reading and writing and feels more confident day after day and doing a lot of counting but still needs a lot of practices. She is regularly using Busythings website and enjoys the exercises on it as St vincent’s blogs .I would say it is more challenging for us parents to make her focus more than 30mn 🙂 Thank you for all your support and hope school will reopen very soon.

  8. Everything going alright so far!

So far Moses has been enjoyed the Maths tasks.Moses enjoyed today’s Maths task and would like to do similar activities like that.

What I find helpful is more reading/comprehension activities and more tasks that include texts where you to look for tricky words in the story.

    Hope to see everyone soon!
    Moses xxx

Thank you all very much for your feedback. We ‘meet’ as staff team every week and I will pass on your suggestions then.
    Kind regards,
    Miss Siswick

  10. Mrs Knowler says:

Hello Reception. I just wanted to say “Hello”. It looks like you have been working really hard. Well done. I am proud of you all.

  11. Dear Mrs. Siswick,
Nico is very happy you’re working with Reception!
He’s enjoying all the homework. I’d appreciate if we could have more practice on writing and on the new phonics introduced (ear, igh, air, er, ure) as they were many in a short time and Nico needs more practice to learn them.
I’m using the computer during the day for work, so we might need to catch up during the weekends.
He loves seeing the photos of his friends.
    Thank you very much
    Valentina

  12. Miss Coleman says:

    Dear Reception,
Well done for all your hard work on the Blogs. We know it’s not easy but we love seeing your photos and reading your comments.
Thank you for the helpful feedback.
    Take care,
    Miss Coleman

  13. Nancy Bear says:

    Dear Miss Siswick,

Florence is very motivated by the blog activities, she likes to know she’s contributing alongside her friends. That they are doing it at the same time as her (kind of) seems to really excite her!

As a family the activities that involved role-play have been our favourite. For example – the pirate shop. Philip got involved, it was easier to engage both children in answering relevant questions / math problems. And the game also continued without my participation.

The selection of different phonics YouTube clips have also been popular. Gerald the giraffe probably wins. But jolly phonic songs are popular over and over and over again.

    Best, nancy

  14. You are doing a marvellous job! Thank you for all your efforts. Great balance of everything.

  15. I read The Big Carrot. I liked they drink the carrot soup. It was hard to read but I liked it.

  16. I read Ant and The Baby. It made me happy. You should the read the book. The baby and Ant are great and nice.
