Religious Education Task
Pentecost
Christians believe that the Spirit of God is active in each person and, in a special way, in the community of believers, which is the Church. It is the work of the Spirit to enable people to hear God’s message and to live Jesus’ way of service.
On Monday, you were able to start thinking about our new topic of ‘Pentecost’ by answering a big question about scripture from the book of Luke in the bible.
Today we are going to learn about The Ascension: Jesus goes back to his Father and promises to send the Holy Spirit.
Read the story ‘The Ascension’ based on Acts 1:6-11. Print here, or read below.
After Jesus’ Resurrection, he told his friends, “You will receive the power of the Holy Spirit. You will be my witnesses here in Jerusalem and all over the world.” As he said this, he disappeared from sight. They realised that he had gone back to his Father as Jesus said he would.
Task
Imagine you are one of the apostles after Jesus had returned to his Father. Having witnessed how Jesus served others, how will you continue his mission? Record what actions you would take and give reasons for your choices.
You can either record this task in your yellow homework book or post your ideas on the blog.
Extension Task
Create a piece of Art work based on the Ascension story. Send a picture of your work and I can add it to the blog.
Ascension
‐—————
I would continue Jesus’s mission by being kind to the poor, help anyone in need, and do something kind without being asked. If lots of us do that we will be a better person and a kind person to others. People will thank you for what you have done and anything small you’ve done could be something big you’ve done for someone else.
What a thoughtful answer Chloe. I agree with you, sometimes a little thing we do can mean so much to someone else.
I would spread the Good News. I would tell everyone that Jesus died for us to save us, but He is in Heaven now, with his Father. We should respect and be thankful for this, and do everything to be better people.
A lovely response Helena, it is so important to be thankful to God.
I could continue Jesus’s mission by giving money to the homeless and also be kind to people who are sad. I could cheer them up . I could also help my parents more without them having to ask me. I could also talk to people about Jesus and the way he loves all of us .
These sound like really good things to help continue Jesus’ mission Penelope. Well done.
I would continue Jesus’ work by spreading the Good News and rejoicing in his name. Ways I could do this are by following the Ten Commandments. Be kind to one another and talk to and treat people the way you would like to be treated, another thing you can do is do something for someone even though your not going to get anything back. For instance I could make my mum a cup of tea even though I’m not going to get anything back. I would be happy knowing that I’ve made my mum happy.
Well done Ethan, you’re right the Ten Commandments guide us to make the right choices.
Luke chapter 24 tells how Jesus leads the 11 disciples to Bethany, a village on the mount of olives, where he instructs them to remain in Jerusalem until the coming of the Holy Spirit: “And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven.
Well done Reuben, I like how you have included some scripture in your answer. How do you think you could continue Jesus’ mission with your actions?
I would give food to the poor and spread the happiness all to others and I’ll respect other people. I won’t pretend to be sick to skip school. I will give my family a drink if they want one at dinner, lunch and breakfast. I’ll help my family when they tells me that she needs help.
Some sensible actions you have thought of Angie – well done.
I will continue Jesus’s mission by being kind to the people, help the poor, bring good news and help the blind to see again.
I would do all of this because I want to help those in need mostly and help people so that no one can hurt the poor or anyone.
Initially I would feel shocked and amazed that it happened.
I would spread the good news, I would help the poor and be kind to everyone. I would be very happy I would tell St. Mary not to worry, so she would be delighted.
I can continue Jesus mission by helping the poor to find a house so happines is all oppon us. I won’t block the toilets on purpose at school so there is no school. What is good to do is to be polite to listen and help mum and dad.
I would spread the good news!Jesus is very special to me and I want to help him.
Great responses Chloe H, Alex and Louis. Jesus wants us to spread the good news whenever we can!
I am helpful by giving away old clothes to charity and old toys. I am also helpful by giving away spare change to homeless and poor. I also help my mum and I read books to my sister.
I will give money to the poor what the Bible says and help each other and to be kind
Those choices are very kind Gabriella and Graceanne.
I think lots of us are doing small kind things for.people that maybe we didn’t do before. We are thanking people for going to work and serving us in the supermarket and clapping for the NHS and being kinder than we normally are. This is all continuing Jesus’ work.
However I know that year 3 are always kind take care and be safe love from Mrs Lynch x
Thanks Mrs Lynch 🙂
I will continue his mission by helping my friends ,poor and homeless people and tell true storys about God!
I will love the people just like Jesus did and I will pray for them to be better people and they did not lose faith and trusted in Jesus and God.
It’s lovely to pray for others Karolina.
Well done Celestine for submitting your two pieces of work for this task. I love your art work of the ascension. The bright yellow is so effective in your picture.
I would tell everyone the good news and spread white sparkly doves all over the world. Jesus is now in Heaven, safe and sound.
What a lovely thought, Emi!
I will give food for the homeless and give charity,be kind to people
Lovely ideas Jiana!
Well done Eugenia for sending through your work. I love your sentence about giving our hearts to others in order to serve them. A thoughtful response.
