Good morning Year 6 🙂

Have you ever been in a situation when you saw something happen which was unusual, strange or even wrong and you knew you needed to tell someone.  You might have been unsure for a number of reasons.  Maybe you thought people would laugh at you, not believe you, or you might get into trouble.

I know I have.

Read the story below:

Connor was cycling home from school when he saw his elder sister, Kylie, with a group of young people.  He knew some of them; they were tough and didn’t care what anyone said to them.  They were from the local secondary school, where Connor would be going in September.  Connor got off his bike and hid behind a parked car where no one could see him.  He was fond of Kylie, even though she was always telling him he was stupid.  He knew it was only teasing.

As he watched, he wondered why he had stopped.  Was it curiosity?  Was he spying or was he really concerned about Kylie?  He wasn’t sure.  Kylie was laughing.  One of the girls offered her a cigarette which she took.  Connor knew his parents would be cross if they found out.  Kylie was only fourteen.  He could see Kylie shaking her head and beginning to walk away, then another one of the group, a boy, held her arm and started arguing with her.  Another girl pushed her, while another got hold of her bag.  Kylie grabbed it back and started to run.  The group let her go but shouted after her; “You’d better have the money tomorrow!”

Connor didn’t know what to do.  There were too many in the group for him to tackle. Kylie was walking home now.   Connor got home first.   His Mother asked him if he had seen Kylie on the way.  Before he could answer Kylie arrived home.

Think about the following questions:

  • Q      As a witness to the incident, what do you think Connor should do?
  • Q      Who do you think needs courage in this situation?
  • Q      What would you do?

Your task

Connor has written a letter to you asking for your advice. Think about the questions he has asked you and find a Bible passage that could offer him some guidance. Write your reply on the Blog below.

Some of the following Bible passages may help you form your response:

  •  Isaiah 41:10
  •  Exodus 15: 2
  •  Ephesians 6:10

We look forward to reading your responses 🙂

  1. Good morning everyone!
I think Conor should tell a priest first, and the priest will tell him to look up a certain verse or chapter in the bible for guidance.he should pray every night and every morning.then he should tell his mum.i think he will be more confident after the teaching of the bible.

    Thankyou! Missing you all!

  2. Good morning!
I think Connor should tell Kylie what he saw and even if she tells him not to tell anyone, he should let someone responsible know.

His local priest could give Connor advice and remind him that fighting (physically) back is not what God taught us to do. Otherwise, he could warn his secondary school principle/headteacher.

  3. Good Morning!!
I think Connor should tell Kylie what he saw so that they can talk it out with their parents. Their parents could tell the school’s headteacher that some of the pupils are not behaving as they should outside school.
I think that Connor will have to have the courage to tell someone he can trust what he saw so it can be sorted out.

  4. I think Connor should tell his mum later when Kylie is gone, then she will tell him what to do, and make sure he doesn’t feel scared. She’ll make sure that Connor is safe and sound, then hopefully talk to Kylie about why what she does is bad. She’ll remind her it’s is also bad for herself and the earth. Connor and his mum can pray to God that their sister will know the error of her ways.

  5. Good Afternoon, I think Connor should first approach his sister about what he witnessed and tell her that he is going to inform his mum and the school so that they can put an end to whatever is happening. I know that Kylie is going to be hesitant at first because she doesn’t know what they could do to her, they may have threatened her so that she would be scared to speak up but you have to assure her that it was going to be fine. If something like this was happening Connors mum will be understanding and not scold Kylie for what happened. You should never ignore this sort of thing because the person it is happening to may suffer from anxiety or depression in the future. Everyone needs to know that you don’t have to go through it alone and that family is important as they can help you.

  6. I think Connor should tell his sister what he saw and then ask for permission to tell someone. If she says no, then he should go to the local priest to ask for help and see if there is any Bible passage for guidance. Then he should tell his mum and ask if she could tell the headteacher/principle. Then he should pray that the headteacher will do something about it, and then look for a Bible passage to reassure him everything will turn out fine.

  7. In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.
    – Psalms 71:1
I think this passage would help connor understand that god is always there to guide anyone who needs it.

  8. I think Conner should pray to God so nothing happens to her and then he goes to ask his parents to go to the headteacher of the secondary school so the gang surrounding kylie stop confronting her for money or telling her to smoke even though she was only fourteen. Kylie could read Bible and that would help her change her actions so she doesn’t have to be in the situation she was in before

  9. I think Conor should tell her sister because shs is in great danger or go and tell the priest or there mum because then her mum can go and tell the head teacher of the school to talk to there parents.
Then he could go and talk to God and ask him to do something .
If that happens then everything will turn out fine and nobody will hurt each otherAnd should also read the Bible scripture . I think that Conor should read Isaiah 41:10 . when I read this scripture it made me think that Jesus is with me all the time and won’t forget me and i will never be alone

    Stay safe?????✌

  10. Hi everyone! I think that Conor should speak to his mum as his sister may get angry that he was there and saw her.I think her mum would help her resolve her problems instead of her keeping it to herself ,getting hurt and not enjoying school.

  11. I believe Connor should speak to sister, Kylie as they will be going to the same school in September. He should tell Kylie what he witnessed so, he could help her.
Connor should speak to a priest as he can get the best advice and recommend a Bible passage to help guide him through the right pathway.

Hi everyone 🙂 What thoughtful responses, I really enjoyed reading your advice. I’m really pleased to see that some of you have found Bible verses that offer support.

  13. Dear Connor,

In Isaiah 41:10 it says not to worry as God will help you. I think that you should first talk to Kylie then to your mother. I think that because if you talk to Kylie first you will know more about what has happened and then know what to tell you mother.

    Yours dearly,
    Gaspard

  14. ? Antonia ? says:

    Hello!
I think that he should first speak to his sister, and perhaps his mum after (tell their mum with his sister). The reason he needs to speak to his sister first is he may not know the full story and she wouldn’t feel betrayed/scared.
As this is quite difficult because he doesn’t want to be picked on he must remember that the Bible says, “Be strong an courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6.

  15. Miss Gorick says:

Thank you Antonia and Gaspard 🙂 I agree that it is tricky when you worry about what other people think etc. I really like the Bible verses that you chose-I think those words are also very important to remember in times like these!

  16. Good afternoon,
I think Conner should inform Kylie that he is going to tell there mum ?and then tell her what he witnessed I also think he should speak to the secondary school to find out whats happening and stop it.I think he should speak to Kylie before so he doesn’t get on her bad side.Conner should not be scared and worry like this passage says (isaiah 41:10)but tell the truth if he really cares about his older sister❤️.I also think he should speak to a priest because they always help you make the right choice especially in this kind of situation. The priest will help him to follow his instincts and do what he thinks is right. What he mainly has to do is inform someone though because he shouldn’t be going through this on his own.???

  17. I think that Conor should tell Kyle and then his parents therefore his
Parents can talk to the school about it. In Isiah 41:10 it said ‘Not to worry for God will help you’ . This shows that he shouldn’t worry or hesitate to ask his parents because God is with you.

  18. ?Timothy? says:

Hello sorry about the late reply I think that Conner should consult his sister and mum?? at the same time so that they can figure out what to do. Then they can ask the priest for an inspiring piece of scripture such as Psalm 27: 1 were it says ‘ The lord is my light and my salvation who shall I fear ?The lord is the stronghold in my life to whom shall I be afraid of?’This could then give them the courage to go to the school and tell them about those students.
