We have been learning all about teeth and will be going on to the digestive system next week.
I want you to observe like a scientist and see if you can notice anything that happens.
- Chew a small piece of bread. Which teeth are you using? As you continue chewing, what happens to the taste and texture of the bread?
- Bite into a piece of fruit, like an apple. Which teeth are you using? As you are eating it, do you use different teeth, does the taste and texture of the apple change?
Write a little paragraph or draw a diagram with labels to describe what happens. Don’t forget to use some scientific language!
Hi Mr Kersys this is my science
1.When you eat a piece of bread you use your incisors to bite a piece off but your molars to chew it as bread isn’t hard but you need to chew it before you can swallow it.Whilst you are eating it the bread forms into a doughy ball.
2.When you eat an apple you use your incisors to bite it but your molars to grind it up as apples are hard and your incisors have flat edges which are good for biting.Whilst you are eating an apple all the juice comes out and it breaks into tiny pieces.
Well done for completing your homework Orla!
1. When I chew a small piece of bread I mainly use my molars. As I continue chewing, the texture of the bread gradually becomes mushy and taste starts feeling stronger.
2. When I bite into a piece of apple I use my incisors to cut into the fruit. Next, I use my molars to grind and chew the piece of apple. As I am eating it the taste gets sweeter while saliva is mixed with food and the enzymes (amylase, lysozyme) that are responsible for breaking down nutrients and starting digestive process.
Fantastic answer Aleksander, you really understand how we use molars and incisors!

This story is about a boy who goes to a boarding school, and whilst he was in the middle of a cricket match he was day dreaming and got hit in the head by the cricket ball???. So he got sent to a hospital called Lord Funt Hospital and he met the porter that brought him up to the children’s ward and met the matron she was very beautiful but cruel and rude, then the doctor came in an d asked him a few questions if he could remember what happened and how it happened but Tom said he couldn’t remember and the doctor said you have lost your memory!!!! He said you need to have operations straight away every single operation in exsistance!!!!!! It was Toms first night at the hospital and he saw some other kids in the hospital one was named George ,amber, sally and robin. The were all dressed getting ready to go outside the children’s ward Tom asked where they were going but they said he can’t come he’s not a member Tom asked a member of what a gang a secret gang now go back to bed and they left….To be continued
Hi Mr. Kersys this is my science homework.
Bread : when I chewed a piece of bread I use my incisors to bite it off , the canines to rip it and molars to chew it and grind it into pieces. In my mouth the bread starts to get softer and it kind of melts in my mouth.
Apple : I couldn’t find a full apple but I did get cut up pieces of apple. I used my canines to hold it and then I use my molars to bite the apple so I can eat it.
Great work! Teeth are so interesting!
Apple : when i bite in to a apple i use my incisors then i use my molars to grind it and canines to brake any chunks left
bread: when i bite in to bread i use my molars to bite grind
Hi Mr Kersys
Bread!!!
When I eat a piece of bread you use your incisors to bite a piece off but the molars to chew it as bread so I could swallow it in an easy way.
Apple!!!
I used my canines to hold the apple and then used my molars to bite the juicy red apple and smash it so I can swallow it.
1.When I bite into bread I use my incisors and canines to rip a piece off. Then I I use my molars to grind it after which the bread gets slimy and softer because of the saliva.
2. when I bite into an apple I use my incisors and canines to cut the Apple in little pieces and then I use my molars to grind them. Then the saliva helps to soften the Apple. Now I can digest it.
Hi Mr Kersys
This is my science homework.
Apple: When I ate a piece of apple, I used my incisors to take the first bite and then my molars finished it off so I can eat it.
Bread: When I ate the piece of bread I rip it with my molars and my canines chew it a bit more. Then the bread kind of melts and I swallow it. When I ate the bread it felt different from the apple because the apple is hard and juicy and the bread is soft and dry.
Hi Mr Kersys
1.You use your incisors to bite the bread first,Then you use your molars to make it easy to swallow.
2.You use your incisors to bite the apple then use use your molars to grind the apple into pieces.
Hi class 4
Homework: Since
Bread:
My incisors where helping me with the tering it of the whole thing, the canines cuted and teared food into bite-sized pieces and the molars grinded food during chewing it made the bread more soft and easy to eat.
Apple:
I chose a apple as my fruit and l felt like l was using my canines because they helped me with the tering the apple and my lower incisors helped with the tering it of the whole thing.
Hi Mr Kersys this my science
Bread
When I bite the bread I use my incestors to bite the bread,I use my canies to chew it. When I chew the bread, the bread turns into soft soggy doughy balls and my Silvia helps break down the bread and easy to swallow.
Apple
When I bite an apple I use my molars to bite and my incestors to chew. When I chew the apple it breaks up to little pieces and turns soft.
Hello Mr Kersys,
When we bite Bred it is the insister That bite .But after it’s the molar.
After i use my saliva To Digest .
Hello M Kersys
When I bite bread I use my incerster then my canines and last my molars.
And then I use my saliva to digest and it turns into soil.
