Good Morning!
This term we have been learning about the structure of the earth and the wild weather that takes place around the world.
What do you think is the most fascinating weather type and why?
Make sure you explain your answers carefully and with lots of detail!
Can you find out where in the world this weather type occurs most frequently?
I look forward to reading your answers!
In Florida, where I have a home, there are hurricanes every summer. They start off on the coast of Africa and travel over the Atlantic Ocean all the way to Florida.
We have to board up the house, prepare hurricane supplies and sometimes evacuate the island.
Very interesting!
Can you find out how hurricanes are formed?
I think the most fascinating weather is snow because it has a unique texture. You can play in it, melt it and even model something with it! I also think snow is fascinating because if you picture, in your head, a bucket with hot water in it and then pour it in a very cold area but, when you pour the hot water, it’s not water anymore! It’s ice! How fascinating is that?
Great ideas Clare! I wonder if we will get any snow in England this winter?
I agree with Clare snow is very fascinating and it is one of my favourite weathers. You can see on my blog.
Thunder storms come at night time. But in South Africa they come out of nowhere and mostly in the afternoon. Then, after 45 minutes, it stops and the sun comes out.
I chose thunder storms as the most fascinating type of weather because they are very dramatic and you can hear the sound of the rain drops on the roof.
Another interesting type of weather! Can you find out what causes a thunder storm?
Hi everyone! I think thunder and lightning is the most fascinating weather because it can be so powerful that it can damage everything it can touch. It can cut the electricity in a whole town. I think it is very beautiful because there is light, colour and sound! But remember, it can be dangerous so be careful!
Yes thunder and lightning is very dramatic! Can you research more about lightning and share what you find out?
Did you know that you see lightning ⚡ before hearing thunder ☁️?
It is because light travels faster than sound.
Last time I went to France I saw lightning ⚡ and counted how many minutes the storm was away. I counted 7 and when I was in my bed (seven minutes later) I think I heard some rain.?️
I think the most fascinating weather is lightning +thunder (thunderstorms) snow and rain. I think lightning, thunder and thunderstorms are fascinating because the shape of the lightning bolts.
It is very nice to look at from your house.
The thunder and thunderstorms are really exiting to hear.
I think another amazing weather is snow because when it falls down on you, you just have a feeling that it is God sending a message to you which is to calm you down or to wish you good luck.
Sometimes when it’s new year and it’s snowing, well, I just have the feeling it’s there on purpose from God saying ‘Happy New Year’!
I also think rain is a very satisfying weather because it just makes me think.
Lovely explanations Stella ?
I do like listening to thunderstorms too. They are often quite relaxing to listen to… When they are not too close!
Hi everyone! I think earthquakes are the most fascinating because the tectonic plate movements move in different directions and if tampered with, there comes a tectonic vibration which then forms an earthquake. In 1906, San Francisco was a booming city. It was home to around 400,000 people. At around 5am on April 18th 1906, an earthquake struck the San Francisco bay area. It caused many of their wooden buildings to collapse. The earthquake damaged the city’s telegraph wires too. This meant that different parts of the city couldn’t communicate with each other. This made it difficult to get help.
Yes, earthquakes are very interesting but can also be very dangerous, as your example shows!
…they make me think all about the water cycle and how it works.
Would you like to know about the water cycle?
It all goes like this:
First, there is rain. This rain evaporates in the ground to lakes and rivers.then the sun heats up and the water from the lakes turn into gas.
This is called evaporation.
When the gas goes right in altitude clouds will be waiting though
when the gas touches the clouds it becomes water. However the clouds capture the water and when it is full it rains all over again.
Well remembered Stella! 😀
I have written a weather story, where should I write it Miss Lee.
Where can Itype what I have written so far?
I would love ? to share it with the class.
How wonderful!
You could type it on the reading blog as I am sure everyone will be using that blog lots to see each other’s suggestions for good books and then they will be able to read your story too!
I can’t wait to read it! 🙂 🙂
My favourite season is Winter because in France it snows and I can go skiing with my family and friends! I remember that when I was little I once fell over on the drag lift and got snow all down my neck!!!!! My neck was so cold after that happened.
