Welcome to the Writing Blog

In your home learning folders there are six writing tasks that you can have a go at. Some of these include a story, diary, letter or instructions. This blog will always be here, so when you have finished another piece of writing you can come back to post it.

Have a go at writing one of your pieces in your yellow homework book. Once you have written your writing piece, remember to edit your work. Then you can type up however much you want on to the writing blog for everyone to see!

In your writing, remember to include as much detail as you can to make your piece interesting and exciting to read! Don’t forget all of the important punctuation in your writing.

Once your piece is posted on the blog, your friends can also reply and share their feedback about your writing masterpiece too!

Good luck, I look forward to reading your work!

  1. I’ve done the story in my book my mum will email you a picture if that is ok?

  2. Miss Jones says:

Yes Ethan, this can be emailed. If you can type a little bit of it on the blog too, it would be great for others to see (a small paragraph is great).
Well done for your effort, I look forward to reading your writing!

  3. Gabriella says:

I’ve done the work in my book. My mum said she will email it to you as well.

  4. Chapter 3 Julian’s alternative version

    The Metal Speaker

The Iron Man was in the pit, the pit that the angry farmers had dug months and months ago. People either thought he didn’t exist anymore or was now harmless. But he did exist, the sound of groaning gave a shiver up people’s spines except for one small boy: Hogarth.

He had actually seen the Iron Man in the first place! He made the Iron Man go into the trap.

But one day he went to a mound of dirt (well a big one!) to look out to the evening sky. Then the ground started to tremble. He had not forgotten Iron Man was in a hill but he had forgotten which one!

Then the ground started to vibrate and finally moved up and down 6 metres! Hogarth was puzzled, very puzzled indeed. Then he got it! The explanation! The Iron Man was underneath this very mound! Yes readers, I said “the very mound Hogarth was on!”

‘Help!’ shouted Hogarth, ‘Help!’ Then the mini earthquake stopped. ‘Oh’ said Hogarth ‘No worries’. He thought ‘Have I just made him angry now? What do I do? How will I do it? What will it even be?’.

‘Oi!’ shouted Hogarth.’Iron thing, I’m on top of you’ That second there was a moment of silence.

But then… !CA-SMACK! CA-BOOMY-SMACK! SHAZAM! All sorts of metal things shooting out of the ground: fingers, toes, an ear, hands, feet, legs, arms, a head, another ear, a neck, a chest (a body part) and then a whole Iron Man was standing in front of Hogarth. He could not deny it. Of course. It was right in front of him!

    ‘Sit?’ asked Hogarth carefully. ‘Sit?’
‘Ooocccaaaaaayyyyy’ replied the Iron Man in a metal grinding voice.

‘Um… jump in that volcano?’ Hogarth pointed to an active volcano in the distance.’Get in it?’
‘cccccaaaaayyyy” said the Iron Man in that same grinding accent. And he jogged destructively to the volcano edge then jumped in it.

‘That’s the last of him!’ thought Hogarth.

    The End

Wow Julian! Superb effort with your story. I love your use of dialogue and the questions you have included to make the reader think.
What was the active volcano in the distance like? You could use adjectives here to describe it ?
    Well done!

Helena’s writing post (R.E Writing Task)

Today is Sunday. Our Master told us: ‘’Today we will go to Jerusalem’’. ”How are we going to do that, Master?’’ we asked. ‘’You will find a donkey tied up, when you find it, untie it and bring it to me.’’

So we went to look for the donkey, and found it soon afterwards. We untied the donkey like our Master told us, brought it to Him, and covered the animal’s back with our coats. When we came to Jerusalem, people were throwing green palm leaves and colourful cloaks before the Master. They were welcoming us and shouting ‘’Hosanna!” which means ‘’Save!’’

Jesus told us ‘’I will not ride on a horse like a Roman soldier, but on a donkey, to bring peace.’’ I really liked the way that He was welcomed in Jerusalem on that Sunday which began to be called the Palm Sunday.

  8. Miss Jones says:

Well done Helena, you have described the events of Palm Sunday from one of the disciples point of view.
I love how you have included all of the important parts and have sequenced these well. Next time you could think about adding in your feelings, what was it like when the people were waving palm leaves?!

    Helena: Writing Instructions Task

Telling stories in the iron age was neither popular or very much possible. However, our ancestor have found a way of describing their reality, or telling stories of their lives. How did they do this? By painting! How to tell a story in the iron age reality? Here are the steps to do that:

    You will need:

    – Different types of rock to get the colour – some rocks can be used as crayons, for example ochre, limonite or even charcoal from the fire!

    – Space to paint or tell the story, like a cave wall; remember – the longer the story the more space you will need 🙂

Step 1: Get your story ready! (Be careful: If you have done something wrong, you will not be able to correct it! Or, you could use some water to try to wash it off…

Step 2: Get your pigments, or crayons, ready!

Step 3: Start telling, or painting, the story! Remember: make it clear, so that everyone can understand what the story is about!

You can also sign your work! How to do that with no knowledge of letters or alphabet ? Simply put some pigment onto the palm of your hand and print it on the cave wall! Of course the risk is that no one will know it was you, but at least you can be sure that your pictures will last for thousands of years to come!

    Have fun!

  10. Miss Jones says:

Wow Helena, what a fantastic set of instructions.
I really like how you have included so much detail, and you have even added questions with responses into your writing. Great work, next time just remember your main heading to tell the reader what you instructions are for.
    Good effort! 🙂

    Helena: Writing a Letter Task

    Dear Jamie

How are you feeling? I hope you and your family are feeling well.

I am writing to you to share some thoughts on healthy eating. Healthy eating is very important because if you do not eat enough of fruits and vegetables your body will not function well.

I agree with your school campaign because all of us need to have enough of vitamins to be able to grow properly. Our bones need calcium from dairy products, our muscles need carbohydrates and proteins to be able to do P.E. and our brain need sugar to solve maths puzzles.
I am very thankful that you are helping schools to understand this.

I also wanted to ask if you had any difficulties during the changes that you made? What were the nice things during that time? Who supported you most? What made you decide to make changes?

I hope the changes you made will last and that more people will understand the importance of a healthy diet.

    Yours sincerely,
    Helena

  12. Miss Jones says:

Helena I really enjoyed reading your letter. Well done for using paragraphs to structure it well. You have included some key points which are very relevant. I like how you shared some of your knowledge about healthy diets too.
    Keep up the good work!

Helena: Information text – Writing Task

    The Truth About Unicorns

Some people think unicorns do not exist but THEY ARE WRONG! Unicorns do exist. If you want to know more please keep on reading.

    What do unicorns look like?
Unicorns are similar to horses. They have four long legs, a white, furry body, rainbow-glimmering eyes and a rainbow-coloured mane and tail. With one exception – they have a horn in the middle of their forehead!

    Where do the unicorns live?
Unicorns live in fluffy clouds but they are also found in places like fables and TV stories. Interestingly, they can also be seen in little girls’ love-filled bedrooms as well as on their clothes, school bags, and tea cups. They are the happiest alone and when everyone can admire them. Unicorns are usually very, very polite to each other but usually they do not share candy and come late to birthday parties.

    What do unicorns eat?
Unicorns enjoy eating magic and rainbow things like candy and star dust. Whenever they are hungry they just think about what they would like to eat and then the food that they were thinking of appears straight away. Their favourite drink are rainbow smoothies which are made of children’s laughter, but recently this ingredient is a little difficult to get as its producers spend way too much time at home and away from their friends.

    Did you know?
Everybody knows that unicorns love to sing and dance. Amazingly, some of them need to go to Unicorns Performing Arts Academy to learn how to do that properly! Also, they love art, geography and P.E. because they find them the nicest things to study at school. And the most surprising fact: many unicorns are excellent drivers: they are great at driving the clouds they sleep and live on.

  14. Miss Jones says:

Helena, a super piece of writing about unicorns! You have included some lovely adjectives to describe unicorns which makes your writing interesting to read. Well done for including important features of an information text like headings and subheadings. 🙂

  15. Miss Jones says:

Celestine, wow! Thanks for sending in all of your writing tasks. I can see how hard you have worked at home. I really love the Stonehenge writing. You have shown how much you know about the famous monument! I’m sure everyone will enjoy reading your writing pieces. Keep up the excellent work.

  16. Miss Jones says:

Eugenia, it was great to read your Iron Man story. You sequenced events well and included some lovely detail! I love that you added in some similes too! Well done, super effort!
