Super Challenge:
Can you write down any new words you came across in your book? Look up the meaning of these words in the dictionary and record this in your blog entry too.
Hi Year 3. I am reading Pippy Longstocking.
Thank you Miss Hector, great recommendation! I have found “Pippi Goes Abroad“ on my bookshelf (a sequel?). I will you know how I get on!
I am reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher stone and I am on the third chapter.
I love that book Ethan… what has happened in the story so far?
I have read “The Boy In The Dress” by David Williams. In “The Boy In The Dress” a boy called Dennis finds out that his mum is not there. He, his dad and his brother John are in the house. Then one day he sees “probably the most beautiful girl in the school or even the whole world” called Lisa. While they are in time-out they become friends and then that same week on Saturday Lisa offers Dennis a dress! Dennis actually puts it on! He wears it to school but is then expelled by the headmaster, Mr Hawtrey. Later Dennis wears a different dress at the footy finals! Hilariously Mr Hawtrey is found wearing a dress himself at 7am! Finally Mr Hawtrey ‘de-expells’ Dennis from his school! In other words he’s back – with his dress.
Great book review Julian! It sounds like a funny one to make you laugh! What would you rate the book out of 10? ?
Harry Potter lived with the Dursley’s in Private Drive. He slept under the stairs in the cupboard. He got sent a letter Mr and Mrs Dursley were horrified! They burnt the letter and got sent another one the same thing happened Mr Dursley burnt the letter. Then the next day the house got flooded with letters and went away into a hotel not far from Private Drive. They got sent another letter and Harry finally got sent to Hogwarts School.
Great Ethan! 🙂
Dear Year 3,
I hope you are well. I’m pleased that you are reading so much. I love to read and I’m going to use this time to read some of my favourites books and hopefully find some new authors to explore. Please keep posting on here and giving us all some ideas.
Take care,
Miss Coleman
I have watched the movie Frozen II with Clemence a few months ago and I loved it. I love it because the songs are so good I also love that Elsa goes to an enchanted forest from her childhood. I am now reading the book and I am very excited to read on.♥️
My book is called the Picture Dictionary of Ancient Egypt by Fiona MacDonald. The people in my book are the great Sphinx of Giza and Tutankhamun the almighty boy king. An interesting fact about the book is that Ramses the second is still in the Museums today. My favourite part of the book is about the hieroglyphics. I give it a 10 out of 10.
That’s right, Emily, it is still in the Museum of Cairo, I saw it when I went there. It is guarded by two armed security guards and you have to keep very quiet out of respect.
I read Dork Diaries and I loved it. I love it because I like the way Nikki comes across lots of things to make her friends feel happy. I also love Pippy Longstocking because it’s very funny, I was Pippy for book day last year.
This sounds like a lovely book to make you feel happy Penelope! 🙂
My second book was called Coming Clean by Nick Warburton. The characters are Derek, Janey and Mr Such. The main adventure began when Derek rubbed his hands on Mr Such’s jeans. My favourite part was when the suit turned green. I rate it 10/10.
Hi Emily I also loved that reading book do you remember when they had forgotten the pants on the bus?! ?
I read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.
It is about a little boy aged nine. He is poor and lives in a small house. One day he gets to visit Mr Wonka’s famous chocolate factory. Charlie lives with his father and mother and his four grandparents. They can’t afford two beds so they have one. It is for his four grandparents. Two are on one side and two are on the other side. Charlie and his mother and father sleep in the living room.
I finished it in two days and I am reading Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator and then Matilda, I guess some of you like it ;)!
Roald Dahl is one of my favourite authors Eugenia! My favourite book written by him is Matilda.
Did you know he was born in Cardiff? The house he lived in growing up as a child is now part of a school in Cardiff called Howells’ School, I’ve been inside 🙂
Hi Eugenia I also read those books and they are so great. I hope you like the books as much as I do.
Hi Everyone
Hope your all good I can’t wait until my birthday that is tomorrow … I have finally finished puppy love and it was really good and I have nearly finished mermaids rock . Since last week I have been reading the Matilda effect . It is about a little girl who is an inventor and it’s super funny . I will post a picture of the book so you can see the cover . my mum knows the author of the book as she was working with her husband ; the book has already been translated in 10 languages .. amazing
The book that I recently read was Dog Man Fetch-22 by Dav Pilkey. The main characters in the book are: Dog Man – he cant talk, he’s a cop; Petey-he has got a little clone, he’s a bit evil; Little Petey – he’s the clone of Petey, he made comics. The main events that happened were when Little Petey became friends with Molly (a tadpole) and there were 23-22 tadpoles. The tadpoles had super brain powers and they made a tree come alive!
I would rate this book 10/10
I also read Dog Man Fetch 22. The main things that happen are that Fair Fairy was being rude to children on her TV show so they fire her. Then she passes by a lake with lots of little tadpoles. After all of the tadpoles start shouting that Fair Fairy is their mummy but then Fair Fairy made all of the tadpoles evil. Then Little Petey,Petey,Dog Man and their gang are going to save the day! After Little Petey meets one nice tadpole called Molly.
Wow sounds fun Angie!
My third book was What is time by Claire Liewellyn. The character in the book is the boy in the picture that shows we all change. When reading the book I found out that the early humans started at the Cenozoic era, that was the main part. My favourite part was when a girl went to space for five years and came back in the future. I give it a 10/10.
Sounds very interesting Emily, is your book non-fiction?
I have been reading Dork diaries. Right now I’m on book five. In the 5th book Nikki enters a newspaper group for the school to try and stop Mackenzie her enemy to come to Brandon’s party (Brandon is Niki’s crush and Mackenzie’s too.)I have not finished the book but I’m close to the end.
P.S. Dork diaries is one of my favorite books and the author is Rachel Renie Russel.
Dork Diaries seems very popular! 🙂
Hi year 3
Last night I read the whole Dork Diaries series in one day.
That’s impressive, Penelope, how many books are there in the series? Which one was your favourite and why?
Hello Year 3, I have now finished reading Pippi Goes Abroad by Astrid Lindgren, which is the second book in the Pippi Longstocking series. It follows the adventures of Pippi, the extremely strong and funny little girl -who is not so good at spelling!- and her friends Tommy and Annika. In this book, Pippi is finally reunited with her father Ephraim Longstocking, the Cannibal King. My favourite part though was Chapter 5 where Pippi, Tommy and Annika go to the fair and all sorts of trouble ensues.. I would give this book 7 out of 10. I will now read The Iron Woman by Ted Hughes, which is a sequel to the Iron Man. I hope that you are enjoying your reading too!
Wow sounds interesting Mrs Casey. I’m interested by the Iron Woman! Let us know what it’s like, we all loved the Iron Man so much!
I will, Miss Jones!
I am now going to read a book called Mermaid rock ??♀️??
It’s great to hear about all of your reading Class 3!
Remember to keep coming back to this blog when you finish a book 🙂
Hello Year 3, I have now finished The Iron Woman by Ted Hughes. It introduces Lucy, a young girl whose father works in the Waste Factory and The Iron Woman, who has come to take revenge on mankind for its pollution. Hogarth and the Iron Man also come to the rescue. It seems a darker book than the Iron Man but it has a powerful message. I would give it 7 out of 10. I look forward to reading more of your reviews and recommendations!
This book sounds like a great follow on from the Iron Man Mrs Casey. I think we would all enjoy reading this together!
My mum has just bought me all of the dork diaries . I going to start by reading drama queen.
Wow, that’s great news Penelope. You have plenty to read through then! We look forward to your next book review ?
Yes Miss Jones, that would be interesting. I wonder which one Year 3 would like best, The Iron Man or the Iron Woman…
I’ve been reading Roald Dahl Matilda illustrated by Quentin Blake. In the story there was the Wormwoods, Matilda, Bruce, Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey. My favourite part was when Matilda got powers. I rate this book 10/10.

Harry Potter and the Philosipher Stone
I finished this book last week, so much happens in this first book but my favourite part is when Harry gets past the dog and the devils snare and unlocks the door, he plays a game of chess to get through the next door. I really enjoyed the book although it was a lot of chapters. I also read Roald Dahl the witches I took me four days to finish it I hope you have a good day bye.
You’ve been busy Ethan, glad you’re enjoying longer chapter books!
Hi Miss,
Since the beginning of quarantine, I have read all the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. My favorite book from the series is the Chamber of Secret because it has the most exciting storyline. I find Aragog a very scary character.
Great Patrick, Harry Potter is a popular choice in class! Yes he is a scary character, I find there are a few of those in the Harry Potter series!
Hi everyone I am reading STIG of the Dump
Hello Gabriella, I am finishing Five Children and It, and the next book on my list is also Stig of the Dump! Let me know how you get on and if you recommend it once you have finished reading it…
Hi Miss Jones,
I have read all the series of „Dork diaries”, 20 books all together. My favourite one was Dork diaries – Drama Queen, because it was the character’s Nikki diary, it was very realistic. I have read nearly all of the „Secret princess” books and Im about to start „Goth Girl” series.
Hello Year 3, I have now finished Five children and It by E. Nesbit. Have any of you read it? I thought the character of the wish- granting Psammead was very entertaining but I found the book a bit repetitive. It turns out that each chapter was in fact a story published monthly in a newspaper and later compiled as a book! Next on my list, Stig of the Dump. How are you getting on with it, Gabriella?
I have read all of the harry potter books about a 2 weeks ago and read one secret agent I only read it in the morning.I liked the harry potter series because it had a good magical story line and a good plot. The author used good adjectives and described the chracters well.
I’m so glad you enjoyed these stories Patrick!
I am reading the Hobbit. It is about a hobbit,( Bilbo Baggins ) who is supposed to go on an adventure with 13 dwarves, himself and a a wizard who is called Gandalf. One of the dwarves called Thorin Oakenshield (who is the person the adventure is about and Bilbo too)is the the son of Thrine Oakenshield who was once king of Erebor, a very rich city because there was a mountain with emeralds gold and diamonds but one day a dragon called Smaug came and left it burning in flames. He then slept under the gold in the mountains and and never woke up again…
And what Thorin wants to do is recover the city and gold.

Hi Miss Jones,
Recently I read Roald Dahl’s Charlie and Chocolate Factory, The Witches and The Rotsome Giants. I can’t wait to start reading The Puss in Boots by Beatrix Potter. All of them have Quetin Blake’s illustrations, which I really like 🙂 I just cannot pick the book I like best. Maybe it’s the next one I read?
Excellent work Helena, I am glad you are enjoying Roald Dahl’s books! Did you know he lived in Cardiff when he was young?! 🙂
Thanks for sharing what you have been reading! Keep up the good work.
Hi Miss Jones
I am reading the Ickabog by J.K. Rowling. I’m on chapter 19 and really loving it. I love that it is set in a large expanse of land because I love continents. King Fred the Fearless is the main hero I think. It is free online.

Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl
Characters:
.Mr Fox
.Mrs Fox
.4 small foxes
.Boggis
.Bunce
.Bean
Story:
Once upon a time,
In a farm lived a fox, a wife and 4 children.
They lived in a terrier. It was in a farm and in the farm lived three farmers.
The farmers were called Boggis, Bunce and Bean. They were very rude. Oh yes they were! But they had very good food. Boggis had some chicken (he is very fat!). Bean had some cider (he always took some) and Bunce had some ducks and chickens.
The best thing in the story is that clever Mr Fox dug a hole to look for food (as the farmers knew that he was stealing their food so they took there guns and they went outside his terrier to kill him!). He actually found the 3 farmers’ houses full of food so all the animals (that hadn’t eaten for days) had a big feast!
So they lived happily ever after.
What I did/didn’t like :
I really liked when he made a passage to find some food.
I also liked the end when the animals all had a big feast.
What do you think?
Do you like this book?
Have a good day everyone!
Excellent book review Eugenia! This book sounds so interesting, I love Roald Dahl! Well done for including lots of information in your review.
