Dear Parents,

It was really valuable to catch up with you all during parents evening and find out more about what you would like help with for Home Learning.

Thank you for all of your feedback and suggestions, I am really grateful! As always, some recurring topics creeped up and I hope you find some useful information and resources below. If you would like any further support for discrete topics, please do not hesitate to contact me via E-mail.

Reading resources have already been uploaded onto the Home Learning page in September. Please find these in the previous posts:

Mr. Kersys.

Mathematics: Maths Salamander is a brilliant website where you can find worksheets (with answers!) for all of the topics which we cover in Year 4. It  is helpful for everything from addition and subtraction to fractions and decimals. I have attached a link to the Year 4 UK hub below. NRICH is also a great resource for parents from the University of Cambridge Faculty of Mathematics with a range of problem solving games and activities which encourage children to think mathematically!

English: English is a tricky one for resources! I have attached the Year 3/4 Common Exception words list which is the statutory list of words children are expected to be able to spell by the end of Year 4. They are the same words children practice for homework but it is useful to have the whole list there. I have also attached a list of homophones which are commonly misspelt as they are words that sound the same! It would be great for the children to write some sentences using these words to make sure they are using them in the correct way. They can write these while practicing their handwriting!

I know some of you were asking about opportunities for extended writing. When your child is reading at home it would be great to try and link their reading with a creative piece of writing! This could be writing the next chapter in the book, a letter from one character to another telling them about an event or their feelings at a certain point in the story, a diary entry of a day in the character’s life, an alternative ending to the book, a character description/inventing a new character to add to the book, a setting description of a place in the text, an interview or newspaper report of a key event/something they have read about in a non-fiction text or the news.

Please encourage neat handwriting and correct spelling! You can even challenge them to include some of the words from the Common Exception Words list in their writing.

Alternative it might be a good idea to write a letter to a family member telling them about how they are getting on!

Please do continue to use fractions wall, handwriting lines and times tables challenge from the Autumn Term resources list, as well as the reading questions!

It would be fantastic if all of the children could continue to post on the Reading Blog, Wednesday Word and our News Posts each week.

Happy Home Learning!
