If you wondered why people were shouting ‘Opa!’ from the second floor, it is because Year 5 were celebrating the end of their topic ‘Ancient Greece’. We made and enjoyed a Greek Feast with olives and grapes galore! We made Spanakopita (a traditional spinach and feta pie), pitta bread, tzatziki, Greek salad and Lemon Cake. We drank ‘wine’ (grape juice!) like the gods and danced to traditional Greek music.
The children had the opportunity to share their talents through dance, singing, acting, reciting poetry and some children even created PowerPoints to share their knowledge to the parents.
We finished the day with a public debate ‘Athens V Sparta: which is the best city state to live in?‘ and we used our persuasive skills as well as our debating skills to convince the parents. We argued about democracy, the treatment of children, military, women’s rights and education. The parents voted 50/50!
Thank you to all the parents for coming and well done to Year 5 for your fantastic performances! We had so much fun.
