This week, to enhance our learning about our topic ‘People Who Help Us,’ we invited a doctor and police officers into school. We had a special discussion time to develop our communication and language skills. We were able to ask questions, share our own experiences and find out more about people who help us.
On Monday, we met Jayne, a doctor from St Mary’s hospital. Jayne talked to us about her work as a doctor and the different jobs she does. Jayne works on the maternity ward helping babies that have just been born!
We asked Jayne lots of questions about her job and she was able to answer them for us. We learnt some new vocabulary including operation, scan, x-ray, thermometer, injection and stethoscope. Some of our questions we asked were…
How do you do an x-ray?
Where do you get the medicine?
What does the nurse do?
Who else works in the hospital?
On Wednesday, we met, two local police officers, Hayley and Charlotte. They talked to us about their job and the important things they have to do. They showed us the equipment they carry on their belt and we got to try on their very heavy jacket! We learnt some new vocabulary including radio, camera and handcuffs.
They reminded us of the important number we must call in an emergency! It is 999!
At the end, we were able to ask lots of questions to find out more about the police.

It was nice to have a visit from them as we get a chance to be close to them and observe their uniform very closely.
Police is my favourites ones I always say hello on the street and they reply me always.
I don’t like hospital’s but the doctor who visit us was so nice.
