He came to talk to us about our learning in the Creation & Covenant topic in Religious Education.
Father Philip visited us to tell us more about how Baptisms happen in St. James’ Church and answer our questions. He said that Baptism are a happy celebration, and because lots of people want to celebrate a baby’s baptism they are held in the Lady Chapel of the Church.
He shared some pictures of the chapel with us and showed us a special Paschal candle that is lit during a baptism. The candle shows Jesus rising up to new life. Father Philip shared that Jesus had new life when he rose up on Easter Sunday. We also have new life when we are baptised.
Father Philip also showed us the special silver shell he uses to baptise babies and a baptismal candle which is given to the parents and God parents. Father Philip said he must have baptised about 50 babies during his time as Priest!
It was lovely to have Father Philip visiting us and we are looking forward to visiting him in Church soon!
I liked when Father Philip talked about the baptism. And that many babies are baptised in church, not only by Father Philip. And that parents are given the candle to take home. And Godparents hope that the baby is received in God’s family. 😇
