The first Sunday of December marks the beginning of Advent. This is a special time in the liturgical calendar as it is our preparation and waiting time for the birth of Jesus.

This week we made some changes to our classroom to mark the beginning of Advent. Firstly, we changed the cloth on our prayer table to purple and also laid out our nativity and Advent wreath. We also created our Advent RE display. This Advent we have created an Advent calendar of kindness. All of the children thought of ways they can show kindness and help others during this special time.

Today we made Advent wreath’s. During this lesson we learnt there are four candles, one is lit every Sunday of Advent and each has a different meaning, the candles represent love, joy, hope and peace. As a class we discussed what these words mean and looked at how we can include these four ideas in our lives. We also learnt that the four candles are not all the same colours, one is pink. This is lit on the third Sunday of Advent and the priest wears pink on this day too.

The children created the most amazing wreaths which are a brilliant representation of this special time in the liturgical year!
