Year 4 have been reflecting in the first week of Advent, on the special season and the significance of the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
We began preparing for Advent with our Religious Education display and created an advent wreath using our hands, which we will be using to count down to Christmas.
We also made 28 Advent promises to add to the display, a promise of how we are going to be more loving (the theme of our Religious Education lessons) towards God, others and ourselves, one for each day in Advent.
Year 4 promised to put others before ourselves, stands up and help our friends and continue to grow closer to God and growing in faith through prayer and Bible study.
For one of our Religious Education lessons the class enjoyed creating a prayer book which they have filled with their own personal prayers, drawings, passages from the Bible and poems to use in our reflection and collective worship time. We will be continuing to add to this throughout Advent so if you have anything you would like to include please bring it to class.
The class have also been working hard to learn about Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent when the pink candle which symbolises joy is lit.
We read Saint Paul’s letter to the Philippians which reminded them to rejoice and have hope during his imprisonment:
We discussed how encouraging Paul’s letter is and how much joy it must have brought the Philippians. As this Scripture is often read during Gaudete Sunday, it reminds Christians about the joy and nearness of Christ’s coming.
We wrote a letter in return to Paul, thanking him for comforting the Philippians and explaining what we had learnt from him about joy, love and the pledge to continue spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ.
What is your favourite part of Advent?
My favourite part of Advent when you get to light the candle every Sunday on the wreath and sing carols so that people know that Jesus is nearly here.
My favorite part of Advent is Christmas Eve!
