Today we launched Anti-Bullying Week with a whole school assembly and Odd Socks Day. Today’s Odd Socks Day campaign further promoted our mission to prevent bullying, it was wonderful to see so many children expressing their individuality and uniqueness.
Over the course of the week, all children will take part in a range of workshops and activities. The aims of this week are to support children to understand:
- The definition of respect
- That bullying is a behaviour choice
- That we can respectfully disagree with each other i.e. we don’t have to be best friends or always agree with each other but we do have to respect each other
- That we all need to choose to respect each other both face to face and online
Cyberbullying continues to be a significant issue for young people today:
- 1 in 5 teenagers in England have experienced cyberbullying in the last two months
- Children who have been cyberbullied are more likely to be depressed, anxious and lonely
On Thursday, we will be holding our first ever ‘Stop Speak Support’ cyberbullying day. This will provide children with strategies on how to stay safe online.
Together we can make a change!
