This week, we got to take part in a wonderful workshop called Faces and Places which is ran by the National Portrait Gallery.
Our workshop leaders, Scarlett and Alba introduced the workshop aims to us which was to explore portraiture, looking at how and why artists decide to paint or draw people in different styles. It was even more interesting because there was a focus on people connected to Westminster such as Winifred Atwell who we have heard about in our recent text in English. Scarlett and Alba spoke to us about what portraits might tell us, in terms of what people do or how important they could be.
We were then set the task of creating a portrait of one of our friends but the clever part was that we used carbon paper so it would create two images at the same time. We then coloured and decorated our portraits a little more, in a range of creative ways. The last part (and most exciting) was cutting the portraits so that we could create a weaving effect to showcase our portraits in a different way.
We had a great time and would like to thank Scarlet and Alba from the National Portrait Gallery for this experience!
Year 4, what did you enjoy most about this workshop?
I found this workshop really fun! I enjoyed weaving the strips of paper to create the contrast effect. Drawing the portrait of my partner was really a nice challenge. I hope my partner liked it.
Thank you for organising this activity for us. SV rocks!
I hope the National portrait gallery come back to our school again. Alba and Scarlett were so fun!
Hi Year 4! Hope you enjoyed the faces and places workshop! I remember there were so many fun activities and my class really enjoyed them. I hope your class did too!
I really enjoyed the workshop especially when we had to draw the person next to us or in front of us and the thin paper underneath would copy it down on the paper below it, it amazed me!
Thank you to Alba and Scarlett for doing this fun workshop with us.
