In Nursery we have been developing our creative skills and celebrating the amazing art we have around us!
Last week, as part of our Traditional Tales topic, we experimented with using clay to make the nasty troll from The Three Billy Goats Gruff!
We learnt how to use different clay tools to add texture and thought carefully about the trolls features, like his bumpy skin and pointy hair.
This week we have been learning about some famous artists who incorporate shapes in their paintings. We recapped on Wassily Kandinsky, an artist we have already studied in Nursery and looked at his painting called ‘Squares And Concentric Circles.’ We talked about the colours we could see and how they mix together to form new colours. We also looked at the artist Albert Namatjira and their Aboriginal paintings and talked about the different sized circles and dots used to create patterns.
We then explored creating our own circle paintings and patterns in the style of these artists. We used cotton buds to create lots of circular dots, choosing a variety of colours to make patterns.
We also experimented with using different sized circular containers and practised printing circles with these.
We have started to work on our whole class art piece using all of the skills we have learnt! This will be available to purchase in the summer school auction!
