We have had a great start to Art week in Class Two. On Monday, we began the week by participating in a live workshop with Esther, an artist from the October Gallery. She introduced the artist Rafael Trelles and we studied some of his paintings. We talked about the mysterious places where there are ‘hidden’ treasures within his artwork.
Esther taught us the skill of adding layers to an artwork to create a dark mysterious mood. We began by painting initial colours of blues and explored building this up by colour mixing in tones of dark to light. After that, we made our own stencils for overpainting and built up layers using leaf stencils we created. It was great fun, and very useful to see Esther showing us how to do this on the screen too!
Yesterday we had our live art workshop in class with Kirsty, another artist from the October Gallery. We focused on the skill of weaving which followed on from our artwork we created on Monday. We made our own birds that we saw hidden within different paintings by Rafael. We weaved different coloured paper into our birds which created lovely textures.
We are looking forward to building on both of these pieces of art to combine them and make our very own class art piece. We can’t wait for you to see our finished piece!
