This week, we have been really lucky to work with the October Gallery.
We are working towards our art piece for our school auction. We are focusing on London and recreating our version of one of our favourite cities. To start our workshop, we discussed our knowledge of London and our favourite landmarks, from the Shard to Big Ben. We focused on how we could make a cityscape and started by cutting a range of coloured card to create different buildings. Some of us made churches, some houses and even St Paul’s Cathedral.
We came back together to discuss what we would like to see in a future London. Lots of us think we might see flying cars and flying buildings when we’re older! We used pens to draw what we imagined to see in our city.
As part of art week, we have also been learning about our artist, Barbara Hepworth. We found out that she was a sculptor that used a range of materials to create huge sculptures. We spoke about what we liked about her work, from the colours she used and the shapes we saw. We then used some of her work as inspiration and sketched the shapes that we saw. Finally, we sketched our own version of Barbara’s work and discussed what we liked about our own work and began to assess what we might change next time we designed a sculpture.
I loved how we got to make London out of craft materials such as cardboard, paper and many others. It was great to do craft and I did not know how we were going to do this. I really liked how we could design how London could be. We got to make different landmarks such as St Paul’s Cathedral and the Shard as well as the River Thames. I also liked how we got different shades of blue and got to stick it on normal paper.
Thank you for organising this for the auction.
It was so much fun to stick each coloured paper to make a London Landmark. I did St Paul’s Cathedral. We also got to imagine the landmarks using our imagination. I cannot wait to see when it is all finished.
The person who came from the October Gallery was great!!!
I really liked this colourful fun activity. I enjoyed making my London landmarks. Thank you to the October Gallery and to my school.
Also, learning about artist Barbara Hepworth is very interesting.
I loved that even if we were on the first bit of the activity we could still make something that you would like to have in the future. I think that this is an amazing opportunity to show how good you are at drawing in part 2 of the activity .I am very happy that everyone was extremely happy with their creation’s.
This workshop was brilliant. A big thank you for all teachers who organised it . I felt surprise when I came in and on the way out it was a nice experience which inspired me to try something different. I am looking forward to the next activities.
I loved this activity because we got to make future landmarks in London out of card and paper. It was really fun doing this activity with the October Gallery. I also like learning about Barbara Hepworth and sketching our own sculptures and trying to draw her sketches.
This was really fun! We made buildings such as Big Ben!
I really liked using glue and getting sticky. It was fun using our imagination.
I really enjoyed drawing and making buildings. Thanks to the October gallery and the teachers. The lesson was so exciting!!!
Thank you for organising the activity it was really fun. I hope we get to do more fun activities like this.
I loved making the houses in different shape made with card. I like the bits when we could use our imaginary skill to make différent buildings.
Thank you everybody.
I really liked making art with glue and scissors.😄
