Class 5 were lucky to enjoy a virtual school trip today!

We learnt all about the Houses of Parliament and the government which helped us to understand how UK citizens can have their say through the democratic process.

  • We now know that all 650 Members of Parliament (MPs) and the Members of the House of Lords (Lords and Baronesses) discuss a bill before it can be passed as a law.
  • People aged 18 or over can vote for their local MP but the votes are anonymous (just like when we vote to elect our School Council or Green Team members).
  • Most MPs and Lords or Baronesses are members of a political party.
  • The leader of the political party that has the support of the most MPs after the election becomes the Prime Minister.

We are so lucky to have learnt so much and we enjoyed a fun quiz at the end to see what we could remember! A special thank you to the UK Parliament Education and Engagement Team for running this workshop!
