This week in Computing Year 6 were introduced to the concept of packets.
We learnt that when computers send and receive data, the data is sent in packets. Packets are used because they break large volumes of data into small chunks, making them easier to send across networks.
We completed an activity based on transferring an image across the internet, to see that as well as messages (text), other types of data (images, video, and audio) are also transferred over the internet. Year 6 gained an understanding of the key parts of a packet: the header and the data payload. Click on the link below if you would like learn more about how the internet works or test your knowledge by completing a short quiz.

Good job year six!
This sounds very interesting!
I loved it. It was very fun.
It was a bit complicated to start but I soon found it easy.
I had so much fun!!!!!!!!!!! That lesson was great, but the one today was WAY better!!!!!!!!
The lessons always get better each day.
I loved this computing lesson that we had. It was very fun!
This was really fun. I think my favourite thing was sending the packets to a person in your team and making the picture.
This was such a fun lesson learning about Data Packets. Before I had no idea and now I know so much. This weeks lesson was also very fun 🤩. Thank you Mrs Duffy 👍
It was so much fun!! I didn’t even know what data packets were before this lesson, but now I’m an expert (if I do say so myself).
I found this lesson the best lesson ever.
This lesson was very exciting and I learnt lots of new things. Thank you for teaching us!
I love learning about this even though its a bit hard to understand at first
