In our computing lessons, we have previously learned about information technology (IT) and what it means. We now know that IT can be explained as being a computer or something that is made to work with computers. This half term, we are learning about digital photography. In our first lesson, we were learning to recognise what devices can be used to take photographs, talk about how to take a photo and then explain what we did to capture our photos.
Our first job was to recognise that there are a range of different devices that can be used to capture photos and that some devices just have that one jobs, whilst others can have other roles. We know that devices with cameras can take photos, but those that don’t have cameras can’t.
We then spoke about what we know about taking photographs – lots of us were already photographers by the sounds of things! Before we took any pictures, we spoke about the importance of asking for a person’s permission before taking their photograph. We know that everyone has the right to say no to their photo being taken if they do not want it taken.
We then played a game of ‘Photography Bingo’ where we were asked to take photos of different thinks, think about what our photo looks like and work together to figure out how to take a good photography using the iPads. We had to take a photo of:
- A person
- A close-up of an object
- An action shot (a photo taken of a movement, such as jumping or waving)
- A selfie
- Something in the distance
We then thought about knowing how to take aΒ goodΒ photo and now understand that you should hold the device firmly, point the camera lens at the subject, look into the viewing window (or screen), move the device or tap the screen so that it is focused and then press the capture button.
After this, we referred back to our learning objective and shared how confident we felt with our understanding and new knowledge.
Have a look at some of the photos we took… there are some great selfies!
What did you learn during our first lesson about digital photography?
Taking photos of ourselves looks so fun!
What a fun topic!! πΈπ·π€³
I like taking photos. You have to tap the camera to focus properly.
We can see Miss Forster Adams is good at photobombing!! πΈ π€£ π©π»ββοΈ Maybe it’s time to edit the many THOUSANDS of photos on my phone now we know what makes a good photograph! ππ½
