This half term, we’ve been learning dance in PE and we’ve been very lucky to have a dance specialist help us with our learning. We’ve recently been learning how to alter the shapes of our bodies thinking about tempo and dynamics. We’ve been using stimuli to create shapes individually and in unison with dance partners.
In today’s lesson, we expanded our groups from pairs to groups of 7 and we worked collaboratively to create movements inspired by location. For example if our location was a beach, we could choose to make slow, lethargic movements inspired by the idea of sunbathing. Alternatively, we could choose to create large, frantic movements to represent play.
Other locations which inspired our actions included mountains, water, desert and space. Each group of 7 had a different location and we each had the opportunity to perform our ideas as a group for the rest of the class. Our peers’ job was to guess the location based on the movements they were watching. There were a wide variety of movements with different characteristics and the quality of the movement pieces made it nice and easy to guess the location!
